Mykle1,
Got it to install & run. Thanks for the clarification on how to install.
I put in my chosen airports in AK (also one in HI - just so I can feel bad about how cold it is here right now!)
Not sure if you know, but you can return only the most recent Metar data from each airport by using a slightly different URL and the following format:
http://aviationweather.ncep.noaa.gov/adds/dataserver_current/httpparam?dataSource=metars&requestType=retrieve&format=xml&hoursBeforeNow=4&mostRecent=true&stationString=PALHI like the output format. I think it works well for at-a-glance information purposes. However if I had a choice, I’d like a config option for temperature and dew point units. I’m used to looking at these in Fahrenheit. I have my own simple personal website where I link to a few Metar reports directly, and the pages show both the raw units and (converted).
Example for PALH (Lake Hood AK): http://www.aviationweather.gov/adds/metars/?station_ids=palh&std_trans=translated&chk_metars=on&hoursStr=most+recent+only&submitmet=Submit
Not a huge deal on the units, but maybe put it on the wishlist?
Thanks again for your effort on putting this together!

Sure, I’ll keep that in mind. I’m not in a rush after 500+ lines of code already. :-)

You’re welcome. It’s nice to be appreciated. :-)
Now, the first url you posted is great. If you can edit it to pull multiple ICAO’s at once, then I’ll use it. I tried briefly. It only seems to return 1 ICAO. The url I’m using pulls observations from the last hour.
The second url you posted is also great. However, it doesn’t get me to the xml data that I need for the module. If you can manage to get a url to return the very same data like this, we’ll be jamming
-
I feel obliged to state that this module should only be used for entertainment purposes. Yes, the data is being pulled from the very same sites that you use ordinarily, but the thought of any of you relying on this module’s data for actual flights scares the shit out of me. Not that you would. You’re pilots. You’re smarter than that, I hope. :-)
How would that work anyway? You’re going to hang your mirror in the cockpit? :-)
That’ll be a $10.00 fee for Wi-Fi. :-)
Peace!

When did 3.3k people look at this topic? Crazy
Ok, so I’ve done the best I could with alignment of columns, considering there ARE no columns. At least the Flight Rules icon, the station, the wind direction and speed are relatively straight. I’m pretty much done with that. I hope it will suffice.
I’ve added a Station header and a Conditions header. Here they are underlined. They don’t have to be. I was just experimenting.
I’ve also added the most recent observation time to the end of each station’s conditions. This is converted from Zulu time to your local military time. Is this the way it should be?
-
Now I’ll add the most recent observation time to MMM-WISP for those that may want the rotating, bottom_bar version.
Done!
The updates have been pushed to Github although there is no documentation as of yet

Merged both modules into one. Static or Rotating by config option

I’m planning on pulling this down at some point soon… just having some stability issues with my raspberry pi at the moment. It keeps crashing on me every 12-24 hours…

That sux. Are you getting any errors? It just freezes?
My Pi mirror has crashed only twice in 11 months and it was due to losing wifi (internet) from my provider. Even after wifi (internet) was restored the Pi still needed to be rebooted. Other than that, it has been rock solid.
I mention this because it might not be immediately apparent if the same thing were happening to you

@Mykle1 I don’t know what’s going on with it, I’m not Linuxy enough to work out how to find the problem. It’s basically ok for a day and then I come down stairs in the morning and it’s unresponsive, no ping, ssh, anything on the screen so I have to pull the power.
I’m wondering if I’ve got it doing too much, it’s got MM, Alexa and Face recognition all going on. I’m also slightly suspect about the power supply to it being part of the issue.
If you have any hints of where I could start, please let me know… I don’t fancy rebuilding it from scratch… :(

Well, 2.0 amps minimum on the power supply although I think 2.5 is optimum.
Hints? Well, suggestion.
Disable all but the default modules and run that for a day and see what happens. If all is well then introduce one at a time and test again. See how that goes for starters
