BUT remember if you have a working config file it’s best to make a copy of it before you start tinkering… that way if you have an issue and the mirror won’t start you can always reference your backup to see where you went wrong.

    • RE: Can i have the PIR sensor behind the mirror glass?

This was covered in another question but the PIR sensor will not work behind the mirror it’s a light thing… You can use an NOIR camera behind the mirror that would work.

So far I have it working [in php]… hopefully will be installing and testing on my mirror within a day or so…

Here’s a screen shot [not very pretty but working!]

    • RE: Cowboysdude's Mirror

Because of the light sensitivity of the PIR module cannot put it behind the mirror… :( BUT you can replace it with a NOIR camera behind the glass to get the same thing!!! SO that’s my next move.

The mirror build is all done. I used real 1/4" glass mirror and built the frame from mahogany with a white trim on the front… very pleased with it.

…I realize most here aren’t American but I’d really enjoy the NFL scores on mine as well… when I get time I’ll look at it…

As a fellow USA resident and die hard Cowboys fan, I am eagerly awaiting news on your NFL module. I’m hoping to use it as a roadmap to also display current team news. As my wife is a die hard Redskins fan, (I know, I know), I’m hoping to tie face recognition in so it shows me Cowboys stuff and shows her Redskins stuff.

I’m just starting on it. :) I like your face recognition idea!!! Awesome!

    • RE: Introduce yourself!

Hey guys my name is John and I’m 53 and from Upstate NY [about 5 hours away from NYC]…

I like to try new things that I have NO experience with such as programming, etc. So I would say that the help I’ve gotten here and the learning I’m getting is priceless to me.

I was looking for a ‘Magic Mirror’ that I could install and there are a few out there… I found this one and feel in love with it instantly. Now I have people asking me all the time ‘can you build me one?’… I tell them I can but you can also build one yourself… I am not, nor will I ever try to profit from others work because I think when someone makes something and ‘donates’ it others should not benefit from it like that.

I thought at one time of using my RPI3 to build a ‘car stereo’ but found that there was little to no help … so I found an image that was in German and helped get it translated over into English so that other could use the software to create their own… so now there’s an English version floating around on my google drive for people.

I am always glad to help others if I can. This is what this is all about and I really appreciate the hard work that’s been done!! I’m going to try to port an NFL scoreboard over that I wrote in PHP for a joomla module on my website… why? I don’t know… I’m hoping to learn something from it!

    • RE: Complete noob

Well first thing you do is take a deep breath… ;)

Second take some time and read through the forum here. There are step by step instructions and enough how to’s to get you rolling quicker then you think.

IF you run into an issues just google the issue one at a time and the answers are out there… trust me, I was once new too now I can set this up in about 30 minutes… I’m talking from installing the OS to installing the mirror…

You’ll see in no time you’ll be good at it! :)

    • RE: Another Kickstarter is trying to launch Magic Mirror

On another note what this one can do far outweighs ‘paying’ for one. You are limited to what they want you to have where with this one it can be modified, updated and personalized to far better extremes…

So I’d like to Thank you ALL for the hard work and would rather be here doing this than anywhere else.

People will always steal ideas from others but like I said in the end this one will far outshine anything retailers can come up with.

VERY nice with this I think you have solved a few issues for me! :) I wrote a module for my joomla site and was looking for a way to use it here [NFL Scoreboard] but since this will do the httprequest I can pick apart my module and use the parts with this and it should work!! Bravo!!

      HUGE Thank you!

@desq I’m not using the mmm-PIR I’m using something else… BUT I do know from reading that it wasn’t working with node V6… you had to roll back to V5.

I still had trouble with v5 so I went with something else…

    • NFL Scores module...

I have written and NFL Score module for joomla [my site] but have NO clue about writing anything in js and these files would have to be rewritten.

It’s either that or add php to your pi setup…

So if anyone is interested in doing this or helping greatly I will be happy to share what I have
