    • RE: Electron CPU usage

      Hey guys,

(first, sorry for my english. i hope you understand what i am trying to tell^^)

i have got the same problem as u all.

So i tried to fix it with using MagicMirror 2.1.0 and electron 1.4.15

Unfortunately i am not the best programer, so sometimes i don’t know if i’m doing anything right.

Well, i tried the option as shown in this thread on page 18 (https://forum.magicmirror.builders/post/28875)

That gave me some npm errors when i type “npm start”.
So i tried to use this guide: https://forum.magicmirror.builders/topic/5274/how-to-manually-install-mm-on-your-pi-for-absolute-beginners

But it gave me the same errors.

      Step by step i did:

      1. rename the original MM-Folder to “MagicMirror_OLD”
      2. Downloaded this https://github.com/MichMich/MagicMirror/archive/v2.1.0.zip
      3. extract it and rename it to “MagicMirror”
      4. cd in this folder and type “npm install”
      5. after installing was done i typed “npm start” and got this:
      pi@MagicMirror:~ $ cd ~/MagicMirror/
      pi@MagicMirror:~/MagicMirror $ npm start

      > magicmirror@2.1.0 start /home/pi/MagicMirror

Another time i tried as shown on page 18. it was showing me, that i was using electron 1.4.15, but when i typed the “npm start” it shows me the same message as above.

i don’t know what to do :( would be quite nice, if u guys could invest some time to solve my problem together. thank you very much :)

      edit:

      the “npm-debug.log” is here:

    • RE: SD Card Backup

@KirAsh4 I didn’t mean that i will do a backup now and then never again. I just think it would be pretty cool to know, when someday the card is corrupt or whatever, that i have an actual backup (lets say not older then one month).
So in one or two years (and theirwhile i will have done all updates) i need to install the pi again, i will not have to do all the installation progresses of all services i used till then cause i have an actual backup i can use :) Cause it isnt just the MM i need to restore maybe…
And that is exactly the reason i opened the thread cause i want to know how others do their backups (IF they do ;) )
I hope my grammar is understandable :P

    • RE: SD Card Backup

Well, i was asking because on my raspberry pi there are running more services then just the MM. Airplay, OwnCloud, webserver and a little bit smarthome… so i am a big fan of doing backups, cause the time i spent is “unpayable” :P
i am not the “linux-junkie” so when the sd card will crash in about one year it will take me much time too make a new one running, cause i will have forgotten very much ^^
The link above looks pretty interesting. a “live-backup” while the rpi is running sounds good. will take a look at it.

so, i tried everthing but cannot get it work at all. tried it many times…but every time i did the “install” i got some warnings. tried to get them away with install the newest versions and it shows me that it was succesfull, but always get the same warnings… dont know why and if they are significantly.

So i will delet the node_modules folder in the magicmirror directory. then i go to cd ~/MagicMirrorand will do a npm install, right? should i do a npm update or “npm rebuild” before the install?

    • SD Card Backup

      Hi guys,

would like to know how you guys do a backup of the SD card. When i put the card into my win 10 pc it show me two partitions. And with the win32diskimager i only can choose one letter (e: or f:).
So how do you make your backups?

      thank you

    • RE: MMM-Button doesn't work

      So i did the following:

I succesfully updated npm to 3.10.8. Node told me it is up to date. then I deleted the MMM-Button folder with rm -rf. Then i follwed the install-guide again (clone folder, went to MMM-Button and npm Install), but get the same result as before! Is the Button-module not compatible with the newest Node/npm Version?

What do you mean with deleting the node_modules folder in the MagicMirror directory? o.0 there are many many files. When i deleted it what should i do after that? i am a little bit scared, sorry for asking so many questions. ^^

    • RE: MMM-Button doesn't work

Well, i googled a lot and their seem to be different soloutions. But i don’t want to do anything wrong ^^

some say the npm Version is the problem. Mine is 3.10.3 and my Node-Version is 6.6.0. Dont know if they are the newest… people writing that a simple reinstall of both solve their problem. But i was scared trying that by myself.

Some other say you have to install the module directly via npm instead of clone before. But i am not sure as well.

The only thing i tried was going to the /MagicMirror/modules/MMM-Button and do a npm install --save-dev electron-rebuild. But that didnt solve the problem. Not sure if i was doing it right :(

Well, i really try to find a soloution cause i spent much time in the mirror and it worked very well so far, but my english isnt very well and my knowledge about Linux and such that stuff is not so good :/
So i don’t want to do things wrong. Hope (i’m sure) you guys can help me.

      Hello,

i got my MagicMirror run and now want to use the Button Module. Unfortunatly it doesnt’t work. And sorry for my english, it isnt very well.

      I use a RPi 2

I did the “Complete Setup Tutorial” to set up the pi. Now when i try to put the module-code from the Button-Module into the config.js and do a “pm2 restart mm” the screen went to the desktop and then it will show just a blank, white page on the monitor. Button is used like this, but with GPIO-5 : https://dracarysdiy.files.wordpress.com/2016/03/button.jpg?w=474
I can see that the Button works as i used “gpio read” to check it

Any idea? All other modules working fine
