  • RE: Wifi connectivity

I have my mirror in a tricky location for WiFi. The mirror does not even have an outlet nearby, so I have a long power-cable running all the way to where my router is. This is actually the closest outlet, but a huge brick wall blocks the WiFi-signal.

To solve the internet connectivity issues I decided to buy a HomePlug. These allow you to send Internet signals through power cables. One HomePlug is connected to my router, and the other one is located in the plugs installed inside my mirror frame. The Raspberry Pi connects with the HomePlug through Ethernet.

This works very well for me, but I have both HomePlugs installed on each side of one power cable. This essentially makes my power cable double as an Ethernet cable. They are supposed to work through different sockets in different rooms as well, but I haven’t tested this myself. In other words you should be able to place one HomePlug by the router, and the other in any socket close to the mirror. The wires in the wall should handle the rest. Good luck 😊

  • RE: Where to find....

@Weste This guide has links to where you can find most of the materials. Amazon also has IR touch panels. Personally, I think adding touch to a mirror is asking for constant stains on the glass, but I haven’t tried it myself.

  • RE: Calendar Symbol & SymbolClassname

Ok, thank you for the clarification @karsten13 . Then the symbol m from symbolClassName fa-solid fa-fw fa- is available as well.

  • RE: Calendar Symbol & SymbolClassname

@brunst I think MagicMirror only supports Font Awesome v4 and v5. fa-circle-m seems to be v6. It is also a pro-icon which requires a paid subscription.

If you only require and m-letter you can try one of the following symbols: mastodon, maxcdn, monero or mix. All of these are in symbolClassName = fab fa-fw fa-.

PS: fa-fw is just to center the icons.

Edit: Added strike through on my faulty reply after reading the comment below. We support v6, so it is just the pro-icon that stops you.

  • RE: Wind direction 180 degrees twisted at Yr

@MajorC Wind direction is now fixed for the Yr-provider and will work as expected in the next MM version (PR 3020).

  • RE: Wind direction 180 degrees twisted at Yr

@MajorC It seems I messed up here. I displayed the wind direction as an arrow when implementing the provider, and made sure the arrow matched the arrow on Yr.no. The implementation of the arrow in MagicMirror points at the direction from where the wind I blowing, but the arrow on Yr points in the direction the wind is blowing.

I will fix this in the next version of Magic Mirror. Thank you for pointing out the error!

@MajorC I’ll have a look :) When I developed the Yr-module, I did not test with that config option.

  • RE: A module that displays Ring front door camera!

    @anhanyoung91 Have you tried MMM-Ring?

I haven’t used it myself, but it looks like what you want. As stated in the README the developer no longer maintains the code, but it might still work.

  • RE: Places been globe module

@gh0stsh3ll5619 I haven’t tried it myself, but by searching for “place” in the 3rd Party Modules I found iHaveBeenHere. Give it a shot! If you want something else you can look at some of the other modules to see if someone has created a better fit.

  • RE: Does all 24" panels have the same dimensions?

@misk0 Ok, I think I understand. Through some detective work (and a little bit of stalking :detective:) I assume you used the Samsung Syncmaster 2494 monitor?

I found the manual here with some of the dimensions listed on page 44 and 45. However, all of them are including the casing which I assume you have removed. My best advice would be to measure the monitor yourself with a tape measure or a folding rule. Then do something similar for the new monitor you are considering. If it is off by a really tiny amount you can try to remove some of the frame with a chisel.

Alternatively, I found this on Amazon, but I haven’t got any experience with buying used stuff on Amazon and don’t know the chances of getting scammed.

Again, I wish you the best of luck finding a new screen

  • RE: New Bulid

@Bungle68 I decided to install power sockets inside the frame and power them with a normal plug. It required the frame to be slightly deeper, but not by much.
