@nhubbard this is pretty cool… and i was thinking what if you tied it to the weather? For example if rain is forcast, mirror starts raining. Just a thought… nice job regardless :)

  • RE: PIR-Sensor - put your mirror to sleep if not used

    Hey Everyone!
I am trying to use this module to turn off/on a tv and im having a bit of trouble on the physical end of things… I got the module working perfectly (tested it with PIR and hdmi on/off). Now I am trying to use a relay with the PIR sensor to have the TV screen itself turn on and off. I was planning on wiring this to the TV power button (so it is essentially the same as pressing the on/off button).

I got the relay working… and I was about to take apart my tv when i thought…will even work for the on/off button? When it senses movement it will send the signal and then … turn off the tv I guess. As soon as the movement is undetected it stops sending the signal (or really pulse in this case)… just stopping wouldn’t turn the tv back on either. I guess it needs to send a pulse when it stops detecting movement, and then another one when it does again. Am I thinking about this wrong? Should I wire it to something else? Thanks in advance

@paviro any suggestions on what relay to get for use with this? There are lots of choices on amazon

  • Auto on/off of the TV (not the Pi)?

    Hey Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on a good way to have the monitor/tv turn on and off automatically at specific times. I know there is an auto on/off module for the raspberry pi, but I was thinking this for the screen itself.

My mirror is set up with a non-smart tv that doesn’t have any options for auto on and off. I have a logitech harmony remote that I haven’t had a chance to try yet , but some quick googling makes me think it doesn’t have the auto start functions. Anyone have any (preferably cheap) ideas?

  • RE: Simple Music Player Module

@EoF I saw a guy posted on reddit his magic mirror with voice control (he is using this build of MM). He posted this link for how he set up the voice activation part:

    https://howchoo.com/g/yti5mmq0ntu/add-voice-controls-to-your-raspberry-pi-using-jasper

don’t know if this helps, but maybe worth looking at. It would definitely be cool to say “MM Play Classic Rock” and it loads up.

Also, is it possible to, instead of loading all the music on the pi itself, have it stream from a pandora/spotify type site?

  • RE: Calendar Overflow Issue [solved]

awesome! I loaded it up and so far its looking good (been about an hour so far and usually the overflow problem happens within a few mins). I will leave it on for a while longer and report back if any issues come up.

  • RE: Calendar Overflow Issue [solved]

@MichMich ok. Its also worth noting that I do not have the overflow issue with the clock module in 12 hr format as others have reported. My overflow issue only affects the calendar module.
