I’m using the program “SDFormatter”, setting the Format type to “Full (Erase)” and the Format Size Adjustment to “ON”
Does that sound right to you?

    Preparing the SD card

Thanks to @KirAsh4, here is an excellent walkthrough on preparing your SD Card, using SDFormatter.

In case you were curious at all (or someone in the future finds this), it turns out it was a problem with the micro sd card. The one I had was a 32 gig Lexar micro sd card. I took it back to the store and swapped it out for a 32 gig SanDisk mico sd and this one has been working perfectly.

Thanks again for all of your help, you’re awesome!!!

Of course I am curious and I’m glad that you solved the problem. We both learned something, too. Anyway, enjoy your mirror!

I’m about to go return my sd card and see if I can’t get another, but wanted to make sure before I mess with the new one that I’m even formatting it right.

          Yes sir that is correct.

As I have also just found out that a USB port on a computer can also give you fits… If there’s problems writing to a card I’d try another port or another machine… ;) I realize the SD card was bad but is the exception generally.

I think I got lucky with it actually being the micro-SD card. I’ve been using a SD card adapter to fit into the SD slot in my computer, and unfortunately there’s only one of those on my laptop :P

For some reason, when I had the old card, formatting it (even when it was completely empty and fresh out of the box) took at least half an hour. Now with the new one it only took about 5 minutes.
