given that we will have a regular update quarterly, and we have such a large number of new users experiencing troubles after updates (mostly cause they have a ton to learn)… I have developed a script I would like to get included for future updates…

it should handle all the work…
and give you a trial run of all that…

only applying changes if u request them

      give it a try
this works on Mac as well

        bash -c "$(curl -sL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sdetweil/MagicMirror_scripts/master/upgrade-script.sh)"

no changes are made to the local repo or the working copy

if you WANT to actually apply the changes do

        bash -c "$(curl -sL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sdetweil/MagicMirror_scripts/master/upgrade-script.sh)" apply

there is a log file in the installers folder…

I also have a newer installer that resolves a lot of problems with PM2, and supports installing on non-PI systems (Mac, pi zero, odroid, jetson nano)

         bash -c "$(curl -sL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sdetweil/MagicMirror_scripts/master/raspberry.sh)"

Personally, I’d like to thank you, Sam, for your excellent work on the install scripts. I’ve used them twice in the past and they worked perfectly

@Mykle1 thx. The pm2 on Mac was a challenge. Helped cleanup the older code tho.

@trividar there are two scripts referenced above

a new updated installer script, that hopefully fixes some of the problems reported

a brand new script that will do the update/upgrade to the next MM version when it comes out.
the current MM plan is to release a new version every 90 days (quarter)

look thru the forums for how many people had trouble installing the update…
                  2.7 from 2.6, and 2.8 from 2.7…

i updated the links in the 1st post to add .sh to the end of the script name to be consistent with the other two scripts

                    raspberry.sh install
fixuppm2.sh fix pm2 without having to do install (or u changed your mind)
                    and now
update-script.sh do all the work to update your current install to new code level

@sdetweil said in new update/upgrade script, ready for testing:

                      bash -c “$(curl -sL https://www.dropbox.com/s/lxzwyzohg61sppu/upgrade-script.sh?dl=0)” apply
                      Hi,
I just ran your script and get the following errors:
