Are there any cheap OLED displays out there? Would be much more energy efficient, wouldn’t it?

Absolutely and nearly nothing would need to be lit so a lot less energy. I also though about adding just the LCD matrix without the backlight in front of the mirror, would that work? I once had a clock that was transparent and had a display on it.

@paviro Then your mirror would be inverted. ;)

A Life? Cool! Where can I download one of those from?

@KirAsh4 yeah sadly… We will probably have to wait a few more years for that :(

I got this one for 200 euro in MediaMarkt:

                      http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/435115/lg-27mp37vq-b-zwart.html

It’s very thin - especially without the bezel (I think it’s 13mm at its thickest) and the control board is completely detachable and only slightly bigger than the Raspberry Pi. It was a very easy install. Only downside is that the HDMI cable comes straight out - the back they all seem to these days. I solved this with a 90 degree HDMI cable.

I can advise to use use ViewSonic!
                        e.g.:
                        https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00K6E8ACU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I used now two of them for both: it’s not too difficult to get rid of the bezel, they are very slim, and all connectors showing down

                        br!

I also used a ViewSonic, this 24 inch:
                          https://www.amazon.com/Viewsonic-VA2446M-LED-24-Inch-1080p-Monitor/dp/B00D601UC8
Like Eric said, the bezel came off fairly easily and it’s slim. Plus it’s only $129.99 right now!

I used an Asus MB169B+ which is an external USB C monitor. It’s extremely thin, but I had to get a controller on eBay, since the included controller has only the USB-port (and uses DisplayLink).

Would the iiyama ProLite X2483HSU-B2 be a good kandidate? Together with a 70% reflective 30% pass-through mirror?
Or are there better options on the market for a setup like this mirror (24 inch, with usb to power the pi).

En voor de Nederlands sprekenden: hoe heet zo’n spiegel in het Nederlands (two-way mirror)

@neuzehie They, unfortunately, go by a lot of names: Confrontatiespiegel, observatieglas/spiegel, halfdoorlatende spiegel…

Maybe not the best solution for you but well. I bought a cheap 17 inch Laptop screen from ebay LTN170X2-L02 17inch (1€ +6€ shipment) and then i bought a controller from ebay as well TV T.VST59 (21€ suggested price). Just search for nearly ending auctions with no bids on it, but first look if there is a working controller. Its pretty easy to set up everything is plug and play.

I use a old Asus laptop X53 screen witch I unmounted (read: Destroyd) from the bezel and added direcly on the glas. Then I added a custom LCD Controller from amazon. Not the best light (bleeds abit) but smal and works great!

i recently bought a ViewSonic (http://geizhals.at/viewsonic-vx2757-mhd-a1411094.html?hloc=at) but it´s very poor!

in a dark envirenment its bleeding and switched the main lights on i can´t hardly see anything (Mirror with 1:7 transmission)

seems that TN panels are not the best choice.

any other ideas for high quality displays below a 350€ pricetag?

I think it’s quite normal for them to bleed light in darkness - the one-way-mirror needs light on the ‘outside’ in order to overpower the light from the monitor.

If you’re not seeing much when the lights are on, then you can try moving the mirror into a different position - the angle of teh light can make a difference.

Also, have you tried playing around with the backlight settings, contrast etc on the monitor?
