    Something like this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iswUSatSe9E
I´m working on a solution :P cause I want that too!

An other solution is the ZX Distance sensor from sparksfun: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13162 underneath the frame

I recently replaced the PIR sensor of my mirror with this microwave radar sensor:

      https://m.ebay.de/itm/5-8GHZ-Microwave-Radar-Sensor-6-9M-Smart-Switch-for-Home-Control-3-3-20V-DC-New/272851896102?hash=item3f873d8726:g:12cAAOSwk~NZv24a

I mounted behind the mirror glass and it works like a charm. It’s compatible with @Paviros PIR module / can be used as drop in replacement fir the PIR sensor.

Capacitive touch doesn’t work through mirrors.
Mostly because the coating that gives you the reflection is almost always metallic.
