      Hi All

I’m Richard (when Mum is angry with me!) and Rich generally. I’m 57 and yes mum still gets angry with me! I am married with 2 lovely daughters and live in the best part of England called Cornwall. Most of my life is spent outdoors but recently had a heavy duty op for cancer. It worked and I am clear but left with damaged nerves and bladder. Basically I now work 4 hours a day and I am left with a lot more hours to play!
Came across this project and don’t have a clue what to do or how to install on Ubuntu so will ask the question.
My dream would be to own 5 acres and garden, help young people find jobs and play!
      Rich

I just want to take the 100th post. :D

My name is Yi.(Yi is a very common family name in Korea.) I’m 45 Y old, born in Korea, living in Frankfurt a.M, Germany currently as an expatriate.
I was a programmer for some decade of years in S.Korea and Japan, but now I’m running a branch of my mother company here.
I was an old-schooled programmer. My first programming was Basic & Fortran on the Z80 machine. I was a little bored with being a small compartment of huge projects, so I quitted from programming and changed to products design. After that, finally business managing is my current job.
However, MM is a little and lovely project which kind of something can still be done individually. I found this project 2 years ago, and it becomes my greatest hobby at this moment.
And this can justify the reason to my wife why I still need an expensive Macbookpro :D

Hi all, i am Roxx aka Nelson, aged 26 from Ahmedabad, india. I came to know about magic mirror from YouTube. Its so exciting to have one so i started building one for myself a week ago…

I haven’t learned any programming or anything complicated, i am just 10 grade pass, havent studied further… i am very much interested in computers, hardware & software, robotics, motorcycles, exploring… all that i know, i have learnt from internet and by practically breaking, disassembling, re-assembling gadgets, pc, tv, ac, home appliances, etc… i always want to open it, study how it works, how could i make it better and close it!! … i make simple stuff at home, diy, modify PC’s & Motorcycles, handyman job, etc.

Previously, i had bought arduino to make a clock but before i could make anything i lost it and dont remember where i kept it…

Now i am working to make touchscreen magic mirror since 1st jan 2019, i ordered raspberry 3b+, hdmi cable, sd card, power adaptor,… i got these minimum components and started… I have a 50inch tv at home so for now i am trying to get MM fully functional, then i will buy touchscreen and two way mirror and build Touchscreen Magic Mirror…

I collected all my old pc & laptop hardware to use for MM like ac-dc adaptors, wires, cooling fans, led’s, switches, etc. i wish to setup multiple cooling fans for the Rpi and the wooden frame, etc…

currently, i am having problems with modules in MM, hardest part for me is the programming language, editing the config file, modules, etc…

After coming to this website i noticed, its raspberry and not rasberry!

                    Thanks!

Only a biker knows why dogs stick their head outside the window of a moving vehicle!!

Hi I’m new, almost 50, thought I’d try a magicmirror without the mirror, using a PI2 and 20" monitor

@analogcheep give this a try as will need little programming and gives you bit more of the config

                            https://github.com/StuartIanNaylor/MagicMirrorPi0StretchLite

                            [edit]
Scrap that as after some playing now do things totally different and its much easier for the zero. Slightly unsure why such complicated methods exist for the pi0 as its really simple.
Haven’t even bothered with a script as its easy and the NodeJS tools are extremely user friendly.

Try that instead now I have a week under my belt with a zero and MM :)

Hello my name is Steve, I’m retired and trying to keep the old mind sharp. Creating my first MagicMirror has really helped. It was a tremendous struggle. There is a whole new mindset and language to learn when it comes to talking and coding and working with MagicMirror. Took me awhile to catch on. Before I started all I wanted to do was figure a way to automate some window blinds in a upstairs window. YouTube introduces me to Arduino then Esp8266 then Raspberry pi. Then Raspberry pi introduces me to MagicMirror. Have forgotten the automated blinds. So I guess I’ll see you around.

                                Hello everyone,

I work at a school and thought this Raspberry Pi project would be perfect for a bulletin board.

It is definitely more involved than I thought it would be. But its been a great learning experience.

Still working out the bugs though. Hopefully have it bug free soon!

                                  Hi, my name is Joe
Im 29 year old from Philadelphia, PA, USA and became interested in building my own smart mirror after seeing one in a department store a few years ago.
I’ve always considered myself tech-savvy but after diving into this, it seems as if my expertises hardly surpassed those who could restart a router lol.
I suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2009, after being mugged by two unknown individuals-- they shot me in the back of my head =/
Despite making-- virtually-- a full recovery, I still suffer memory, comprehension, and concentration issues. Before I get off-topic, I want to say how Michael’s Magic Mirror is what I happened to stumble upon during my hunt for the “smart mirror in the department store.”
I eventually gathered all the materials needed to build my first mirror and proudly fiddle around with it-- tweaking it every chance I get.
I have little knowledge in comp. sci-- being a communications major-- but consider this a huge, new-ish interest of mine.
edit: I just wanted to add how working on the MM has been a form of therapy for me, over the years, and wanted to thank you–Michael and everybody involved-- for this community and making this a project that even I can understand with enough digging.
I just want to apologize now for any and all weirdly worded queries I might have…
