@sdetweil ok cool so this is how i have it now

            # Command to be executed when an event starts. (default: none)
            # An event starts at first motion detected after a period of no motion defined by event_gap
             on_event_start /home/pi/MagicMirror/modules/MMM-SleepWake/external_motion started

            # Command to be executed when an event ends after a period of no motion
            # (default: none). The period of no motion is defined by option event_gap.
             on_event_end /home/pi/MagicMirror/modules/MMM-SleepWake/external_motion ended

@sdetweil thanks ive done this command chmod +x external_motion but i don’t see an outcome it just re turns to pi@raspberrypi:~/MagicMirror/modules/MMM-SleepWake

                whole commandline below

                pi@raspberrypi:~/MagicMirror/modules/MMM-SleepWake $ chmod +x external_motion

@dazza120 right. That makes my script executable, so motion can execute it

Now u will see files appear in the MMM-SleepWake/motion folder

When the motion module detects motion, and when it ends.

                  My module uses those files

@sdetweil u start the motion tool with sudo motion &

And u can see it’s actions in /var/log/motion/motion.log

The tail command will show you the last few lines (default 20) of a file

@sdetweil hi for some reason I have no motion.conf file in there, but I was getting tones of video clips stored in /home/Pi folder, can you tell me the best remove command for motion project as I’ll start again from scratch and looking at one of the files in the home/Pi folder it said
Install complete! The default configuration file, motion-dist.conf, has been
installed to /usr/local/etc/motion. You need to rename/copy it to motion.conf
for Motion to find it. More configuration examples as well as init scripts
                                can be found in /usr/local/share/motion/examples.

                                  apt-get install motion
                                  then the command is
