  • RE: Any youtube tutorials?

@cowboysdude @MichMich Hey guys. Thx for ur posts, was more than a little inspiring and I didnt know about jshint.com. :)

I actually have the MM up running at this point, working out the details with a nice oak frame atm.

My last issue is that I want to be able to display more than just 1 news post at the time in the feed (and preferebly no fade involved either, just static news posts that updates every now and then).

Im currently trying some really shady stuff utilizing the php script from the original MagicMirror. So Im fucking around with jquery/ajax and a call to an external php script file with that old newsfeed script in it - and I will try to put it in the index.html of the MM2. Might work, might not. Either way I learn something along the way.

Sorry, @MichMich Im sure you really dont want to hear this kind of unresponsible way of “modding” the MM, but I do what I can at my skill-level. :) And btw, great job with the MM2 package! LOVE it.

  • RE: Display more than one news article?

I myself also want this feature. Basically just need this, and my mirror is done. And I’m total nubblet, so…

I started however looking into utilizing the php script used for the RSS newsfeed in the original MM1 - I thought just to hard code it into the index.html. However since the original MM index file is php and the MM2 one is html, there is no easy copy/paste way of doing it. I googled for a few hours on php and html but my knowledge is very limited and, surprise surprise, I came up short.

Between my MM project, very demanding work, and family life - my progress is very slow. But I will have this eventually, no matter what. =)

I might be far off here, but if you plug in a screen to your Pi and don’t look through VNC; what does it look like?

Considering how VNC sessions sometimes seem to add a different GUI for the VNC session , and not using the one you see when you hook up an actual screen (Im no expert, as you can see, but I’ve seen this myself in my own setup. Which is when I kicked and screamed like a baby and uninstalled VNC - all ssh/putty from then on).

    Just a thought.

  • RE: News Feed

Indeed, this would be fkin awesome. My own level of knowledge is not enough to accomplish this, unfortunately.

A “simple” line in the config something along this: “number of entries” (with standard 1) would be exactly what I need. Although I realize to some it perhaps would become to cluttery.

Day 2 EDIT: On second thought, considering how the newsfeed currently beautifully switches between posts, just adding more posts would make it very messy. I suppose what would be needed is a static list mode or a new module presenting news that way. As mentioned before I myself am on such noob levels that I could probably never build it (though I will try).
