    • LED Backlight for mirror - PIR to control them

      Hey,

I am planning on buying some led strips to have as backlight on my mirror.
I do not want them to be on all the time, i was hoping there was a way for me to power them from the raspberry pi and have the pir sensor wich now controlls wether the screen is on or off to also turn on/off the LED’s at the same time.

Is it doable? Would there be enough power in the PI to make it all work reliably?

If so, can i use any kind of led strip? Is there a module existing for this already?

    • Wierd issue - Mirror freezing

      Hey guys,

Ive started experiencing a wierd ish problem with my mirror.
I have it set to reboot every day at 06 in the morning just to make sure everything is running fresh and fine.
I recently also put in a PIR sensor on it, wich works great.

But somehow it seems like everyday, at around 12:00 am it just freezes completely, the screen will be shut off due to the pir, but i cant get any reaction out of it. VNC doesnt work, ssh into it is a no go. It just dies and i have to pull the plug to make it work again.

It only happens once a day tho, wich is kinda odd. The rest of the time after i pull the plug it works fine untill the reboot, then 5-6 hours later boop it goes again…

      Anyone got some input here?
Unsure of wich logs i should post so let me know if you need anything to help.

    • RE: Playing spotify on mediacenter, also playing same on the mirror.

Sorted it out. Used Airfoil on windows and made my PI an Airplay client.

    • Playing spotify on mediacenter, also playing same on the mirror.

      Hi all,

Maybe this is already possible but i dont know.
      What i want to achieve is the following;

I have a mediacenter pc hooked up to my tv, i use this frequently to play music etc.
Is it possible for the mirror to play whatever music i stream on the mediacenter at the same time? I have got setup the spotify bit on the mirror to display what is being played on the tv, but i would also like it to spit out the same music if possible…

      Anyone?

    • First attempt at my mirror

      Hi Guys and Gals!

I guess it’s time to show-off my end result.
Unfortunately i do not have any pics from during the build (Got a little excited and forgot about it.)

I am fairly happy with the result, but for the next project i will probably just pony up and pay for a proper one way mirror instead of the film i used. The film is ok, nothing more than that. Got some bubbles here and there but its allright as a first attempt.

Its running on an RPI 2 Model B.
I used a cheapo wall mount to hang the thing, wich works just great.
And the screen is something i just had laying around, next project will feature a lighter one.
The PI Itself is is mounted with some sort of velcro tape, just because it makes it easier if i need to pry it off for some reason.

The power cord for the screen i cut down quite a bit because it was taking too much space.
The usb power for the pi i just used a very short one. All powered thru one wall socket with a USB connector.

The frame is simply two IKEA frames glued back to back with some brackets holding it.
(Got the idea from some guy on here, thanks for that!)

So now it’s basically done, i will have to take it down again to mount the PIR Sensor when that arrives and a small fan since its running idle at about 60 degrees, a bit worried the screen will get too hot on me. And maybe ill change out the glass in the future, we will see :)

Thanks to everyone who helped me out with answers to my many questions throughout the build process. And hopefully someone will some of my solutions usefull too.
