I think I found the issue, the scenes section for MMM-CalendarExt2 had an error. I discovered it by explicitly looking at errors in the console (and ignoring the many warnings).

@sdetweil In my non-troubleshooting setup I use Scenes2 and remote-API. In my troubleshooting setup I only use Calendar-Ext2. I just updated it and see if it makes a difference.

    • RE: Calendar views load as hidden

@sdetweil Thanks for your comments. My CSS tweaks (which I disabled for my troubleshooting) are geared towards Ext2 (which has become active again) but I will look into Ext3.

There is no fetching delay. The modules are literally hidden. I can inspect, remove the class and see the data.

    • Calendar views load as hidden

I don’t know where I took a wrong turn but my calendar views (MMM-CalendarExt2) load with the hidden class.

I disabled all other modules. I trimmed everything down to defaults, cleaned out custom.css. I do not know where it came from. I previously used the Remote Control and Scenes2 module but I removed their configs from config.js.

What is happening? How can I fix this?

@KristjanESPERANTO Now that’s a whole new approach. Thanks, it works!

    • RE: Introducing MMM-YouTubeWebView Module

@doctorwhen Is there a way to control a video’s volume? I embedded the ISS’s livestream and I would like to mute it since every once in a while some radio chatter is on the audio channel. When I have the module hidden it is kinda eerie.

    • RE: Can't control CalendarExt2 with Scenes2. Hide indicators.

@mmmmh OK, Here’s what I did: I can control everything else with Scenes2 and for CalendarExt I use Remote-Control’s REST API.

    • RE: MMM-Scenes2

What do I need to configure to have no indicators and no need for an region for them?

(I am not sure if this is considered necroing a thread but I see other module discussions also going on for several pages. If this thread should end, I asked the same question here.)

    • RE: Can't control CalendarExt2 with Scenes2. Hide indicators.

@sdetweil Thanks for mentioning that. I am aware of Ext3. But I have customized everything (CSS etc.) so that it works smoothly. OTOH, if you mean that Scenes2 would work with Ext3 I would give it another look.

    • Can't control CalendarExt2 with Scenes2. Hide indicators.

I can toggle between two scenes just fine but CalendarExt2 ignores the scene assignment and its calendars are always visible. Is there anything I can do about this?

Also, don’t need indicators. Is it possible to run the Scenes2 module without assigning it to a region?

@MMRIZE said in MMM-Touch or similar without visible module:

      @mmmmh
      useDisplay: false,

Yes. I think this does it. In the beginning I thought it just disabled visual feedback but it seems it actually hides the module. I’ll test it some more and will come back.

    • RE: MMM-Touch or similar without visible module

@sdetweil that’s the challenge, I need something that has no visible representation but is doing its job. I could experiment with custom regions and custom CSS. I have done this in the past but I am wondering if there is a cleaner way.

    • RE: MMM-Touch or similar without visible module

@sdetweil I want to execute shell scripts to turn the screen on or off. The swipe gestures from MMM-Touch also look nice, but, as I wrote, MMM-Touch adds a visible module on the screen which I don’t want.

    • MMM-Touch or similar without visible module

I would like to add touch capabilities to my screen but I don’t want to have a visible module. MMM-Touch seems to require space on the screen. Can this be accomplished with MMM-Touch or another module?

Can a module be active, accept input from the whole screen but not be visible?

    • RE: MMM-Spotify

@Bugsounet Thanks. Do I understand this correctly. As long as the module is idle it will only check for updates every 30 seconds and when it is active (music is being played) it updates every second?

    • RE: MMM-Spotify

@Sean I hacked together a simple bash script (dnssaver.sh) that fetches IPs and stores them in the hosts file. If I call it with ‘api.spotify.com’ as argument and put it in my crontab it should take a load of the dns server. I’ll keep an eye on it.

    • RE: MMM-Spotify

@Sean Thank you for chiming in and for providing a more elaborate response. I thought that the constant polling might be the reason. If I may comment, for other users it may be helpful to put it in the documentation that using the module leads to increased network traffic.

I for one would be happy with a display of the static per-title information and the controls, I will observe what happens when I crank the refresh rate up to 30000 milliseconds.

Regrettably, DNS requests are still too many. I see 1000 in 10 minutes (purple is a fresh install of MagicMirror with just the clock and the Spotify module):

@Bugsounet, thanks for fixing it. From the changelog, should I expect that many requests again when not on idle?
