@sdetweil Thank you so far Sam. I give up and will use my Pi4 where everything runs smothly. It is much to time consuming and frustrating. When I have more time I think I try an MM installation manually from scratch. I really appriciate your help. Can I show my appreciation in any way ?

RE: Magic Mirror with Pi4 OS not working with Pi5
@sdetweil
Sorry, don not know, how to edit mm.sh. when I go to ~/MagicMirror/installers/mm.sh I get a long list but can not edit it. When I go to mm.sh via Datei Manager I get only this few lines:
#!/bin/bashThis file is still here to keep PM2 working on older installations.
cd /home/pi5/MagicMirror
DISPLAY=:0 npm start.
I have seen that in raspberry config > advanced options one can switch to wayland backends. Could that help here in any way? Sorry but my knowledge in Linux is not really exciting. Thanks for all your effort. -
RE: Magic Mirror with Pi4 OS not working with Pi5
@sdetweil Hello Sam, in the installers/mm.sh, second line, I find: npm run start:x11 ; should I change this to npm start:wayland OR to npm run start:wayland ?
ANDthen
pm2 flush
pn2 restart mm ! Is it pn2 OR pm2 ? -
RE: Magic Mirror with Pi4 OS not working with Pi5
That is what I get with pm2 logs --lines=20.

RE: Magic Mirror with Pi4 OS not working with Pi5
@sdetweil Hi, Thanks for your quick answer. I do not know what you mean with
show the messages at npm start time for calendar?
The MagicMirror Version on the pi4 is 2.24.0
Your restore link restored everything back as expected. All modules are running besides of those named above. The “alert” module, “updatenotification”, “clock”, “calendar_monthly”, “weather”, “MMM-MoonPhase”, etc. etc. are running well.

RE: Magic Mirror with Pi4 OS not working with Pi5
@sdetweil Hello Sam, I finally tried also your backup-restore link and it worked perfectly. Unfortunately, the calendar module no longer loads my iOS events (next events and birthdays), it only shows “Loading”. Also the news feeds are not shown. For the latter, the message “No news at the moment” appears. I have found various solutions on the net, but I don’t dare to try them out so as not to produce any more mess. The same config.js works fine on a Raspberry Pi 4. Hope you will and can help?

@sdetweil Thank you very much Sam, that makes life easier. I didn’t know the key combination.

RE: Magic Mirror with Pi4 OS not working with Pi5
@sdetweil The question is, how can I stop MM in order to go back to the grafic desktop?

RE: Magic Mirror with Pi4 OS not working with Pi5
@sdetweil Hello, thank you very much, I somehow managed to do that by ‘manually’ copying the modules etc. back. But I still have the following problem. I use an original Raspi keyboard and used to get into the ‘dock’ with the ‘Berry’ key, so that I could call up the terminal and end the MagicMirror with ‘pm2 stop mm’. This no longer works and I can only get out via RealVNC. Do you have a solution for this?

Magic Mirror with Pi4 OS not working with Pi5
Hi, got a new Pi 5 and wanted to run it with the SD Card of my Pi4. Did not work. So I had to install new OS for the Pi5. How can I get my Mirror running on this new OS ? I am afraid copy paste would not work ?

Update - General Question
Re: UPDATE
Hi, month ago there was a post saying do not update MagigMirror as long as the system runs. My mirror sais I am 89 commits behind the master branch. My Question: is there any need to update? Same Question re the module updates? -

RE: Turning system on and off
My solution. Cronjob to shut down the raspi and a Shelly Relay to switch the power on and off. As already mentioned here, I only switch the power off 5 minutes later. The Shelly works like a timer and you can switch on and off several times a day. It switches off the power to both the Raspi and the display. With the Shelly app or an additional switch, you can also switch on the MM outside the programmed times. If you are not familiar with 230V wiring, use a Shelly plug.

RE: Compliments font size
@sdetweil Thank you for your quick reply. Just to avoid misunderstandings. In /home/usr/MagicMirror/css I do not have a “custom.css” file but there are a “main.css” and a “custom.css.sample”. Which one has to be modified?

Compliments font size
Re: Compliments font size
Hi, obviosly your solution helped everybody besides me. I did the following in the custom.css.sample::root {
–color-text: #999;
–color-text-dimmed: #666;
–color-text-bright: #fff;
–color-background: black;–font-primary: “Roboto Condensed”;
–font-secondary: “Roboto”;–font-size: 20px;
–font-size-small: 0.75rem;–gap-body-top: 60px;
–gap-body-right: 60px;
–gap-body-bottom: 60px;
–gap-body-left: 60px;–gap-modules: 30px;
}
.compliments .xlarge {
font-size: 15px;
}There is no modifikation on the font size.
