Hm, like I said, anything I’m suggesting at this stage is purely experimental as I have no experience with setting up the MagicMirror electron environment, but you could try upgrading your node installation.

Please only do that if you are willing to set up your Pi all over again (Reinstalling Raspbian, etc.) should this fail, because it’s hardly ever a good idea to turn your system into a patchwork project.

Someone at stackexchange.com said this helped them in installing Node.js on their Pi 3:

      curl -sL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup_6.x | sudo -E bash -
      sudo apt-get install -y nodejs
      sudo apt-get install -y build-essential

      Source: http://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/45319/install-newer-node-version-on-pi-3

If you’re not willing to reinstall everything, should this compromise your Raspbian setup, I would suggest waiting for other forum members’ suggestions on how to proceed.

    • RE: cant get magicmirror to show up on screen

This would mean that there seems to be a problem with your electron installation. Since you’ve got a Pi 3, I would try to get that fixed, it’s much easier to have the mirror act the way you want it to if the kiosk mode comes up automatically. I’m running the mirror on a Pi 1 and it took me forever to get everything set up so that the system boots into the mirror, I had to make sure the browser didn’t start too early, and so on. It requires many manual modifications and I’m almost certain that’s not the path you want to take :).

Your mirror installation is not properly set up, I would try to fix that.

I’m not sure if the problem on your system is electron or the mirror installation, as I’m not able to use electron on my Pi I have no experience with using it. But you can try going to your MagicMirror folder and typing in: “npm install electron”, this may set things right.

If it doesn’t, maybe try a reinstall.

Ok, there might be a problem with your electron installation.
Can you go into your MagicMirror folder and type “node serveronly”?

Then, go back to your browser window and type in “localhost:8080”

Alright. What happens when you open a browser window on your Pi and go to http://localhost:8080?

Are you, by any chance, using a Raspberry Pi 1?

    • RE: MMM-Wunderground - dates are off??

@amanzimdwini Don’t give me any ideas, I’m burning the midnight oil as it stands :D. But I guess it would be quite a feat if the mirror reacted to my moods as well.

I do want to share my tweaks and modifications, at the same time I’m aware that they are extremely tailored to my needs and likes. That’s why I need to make them customizable before it makes sense to post them online. Otherwise, people will just come back to me asking me to change this and that again, because they like certain features but not others. What it all boils down to: I need to clean up my code and make it mergeable with the main branch of the project so that @RedNax can simply incorporate my changes into the main module. I’ve promised myself I would to that in the next few days. At the same time, he’s just introcduced a nice new layout option and I need to incorporate that into my code lines first. It’s an uphill battle :D.

You can find my fork of the MMM-WunderGround module here, feel free to check its state again after the weekend. I will also pot any notice here, so maybe add the thread to your watchlist.

Hey @veryaner, I’m currently working on a module that implements node-cron and it’s running fine. If you’re still looking for an answer, let me know.

      Wow, great work!
This kind of production quality is normally only found in projects that try to sell you something :). Well, I’m sold, keep up the outstanding work.

@dmcinnes It’s great that you’re experimenting with this in any case. Please let us know the outcome once the sensor has arrived.

    • RE: MMM-Wunderground - dates are off??

@amanzimdwini I see your point, I changed the config to start with the forecast for tomorrow as well, for the same reasons. Then I realized that after midnight the forecasts for the new day would not be shown, which I didn’t like, because the hourly forecasts only showed 1am, 4am, 7am and 10am, so I messed around with the source code so that it normally starts its forecasts with the weather tomorrow but between midnight and sunrise it still shows the forecast for the new day that is now day 0. After sunrise the first day that is shown in the forecast table is the next day. Not sure if I’m making any sense here :D

    • RE: MMM-Wunderground - dates are off??

@amanzimdwini Does it make a difference in your forecast texts when you set fcdaystart = ‘1’?
What you see should be the forecast text for the current conditions outside, no matter what day your forecasts start on.

    • RE: Adjusting monitor brigthtness level via software

@KirAsh4 That would indeed be a great solution. Will ask one of my friends to have a look into that, maybe he can tap into the brightness settings this way.

As I don’t have my mirror put together at this stage (It’s just a screen attached to a Pi), have you tried lowering the brightness at night so that only the text is visible but not the screen? So what I’m asking is: is controlling the screen brightness the key to hiding the screen at night or does the text become illegible if we do that?

    • RE: PIR sensor behind glass?

@dmcinnes Thanks for your link, I’m using a radar module in a Pi-independent LED lighting control unit that a friend of mine put together (So I have no clue how his circuits actually work, but they do and that’s great :D), which is why my first impulse was to use a radar motion detector as well.

I couldn’t find any that operated within the voltage specifications of the PI’s pins. Your link lists a working voltage range of 5.5 - 18 V DC, but the Pi only offers 5 V DC, doesn’t it?

So are you planning on using an external power source for your module?

    • RE: Adjusting monitor brigthtness level via software

@KirAsh4 My problem isn’t the brightness of the text but the brightness of its background (i.e. the screen) as this can be seen at night when there’s very little light inside the room the mirror is in.

    • RE: Weatherunderground - currently - hourly - daily - configurable

@RedNax I managed to parse my way through it with some crazy regex stuff a few days ago (As this is the first time I have done this, it took me an insane amount of time to add the degree symbol only where it should be added), I know I keep saying this, but I will eventually push it to my MMM-WunderGround fork and then you can decide which of my features you would like to implement.
