Hello, I’m running a MagicMirror2 Instance as server only on a Raspberry Pi now for ~2 years without any big problems. Today I wanted to display the states of my 4 Bose Soundtouch devices. At first it worked fine, the status informations were displayed correctly. Then, I don’t know what I did while configurating, the load on my Pi kept rising till freeze. I couldn’t find a reason in the system logs. My MagicMirror instances doesn’t log anything or at least I don’t know where by default. Now, after reboot, the Bose-Module doesn’t work correctly anymore. I keeps flashing and jumps between displaying the status information to the way the module looks, when the speakers are turned off. I can see the html switching in irregular intervals to an empty “module-content”-div. The startup doesn’t throw any errors: user@host: node serveronly Starting MagicMirror: v2.1.2 Loading config ... Loading module helpers ... No helper found for module: alert. No helper found for module: clock. Initializing new module helper ... Module helper loaded: MMM-CalendarExt No helper found for module: currentweather. No helper found for module: weatherforecast. Initializing new module helper ... Module helper loaded: MMM-Bose-Soundtouch All module helpers loaded. Starting server on port 8081 ... Server started ... Connecting socket for: MMM-CalendarExt Connecting socket for: MMM-Bose-Soundtouch Bose helper started ... Sockets connected & modules started ... Ready to go! Please point your browser to: http://localhost:8081 My config.js { module: "MMM-Bose-Soundtouch", position: "top_right", config: { updateInterval: 5, // every 5 seconds apiBase: '192.168.24.46', //bathroom1 hideImage: true } }, { module: "MMM-Bose-Soundtouch", position: "top_right", config: { updateInterval: 5, // every 5 seconds apiBase: '192.168.24.44', //office1 hideImage: true } }, { module: "MMM-Bose-Soundtouch", position: "top_right", config: { updateInterval: 5, // every 5 seconds apiBase: '192.168.24.32', //kitchen1 hideImage: true } }, { module: "MMM-Bose-Soundtouch", position: "top_right", config: { updateInterval: 5, // every 5 seconds apiBase: '192.168.24.36', //bedroom1 hideImage: true } }, Module: https://github.com/SpoturDeal/MMM-Bose-Soundtouch The other modules (clock, currentweather, weatherforecast, MMM-CalendarExt) work fine. The problem is server-side. Clearing the clients cache or using different browser for testing didn’t pay off. It seems like there is something wrong stuck in the cache or something. Any help to debug and solve this issue would be great. Thanks!

@wazscience said in keep getting error after modifying config.js file: whenever I try to modify the config.js file, either to add a module or to edit an existing one, I get an error message You might want to give this a read. I went through the same thing as you. https://forum.magicmirror.builders/topic/4231/how-to-add-modules-for-absolute-beginners

so. I was able to fix the problem. an error must have crept in during installation. once ran over the upgrade bash. bash -c “$ (curl -sL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sdetweil/MagicMirror_scripts/master/upgrade-script.sh)” force After a new installation of the basic modules, the weather module now works correctly.

@Mykle1 said in 2020 Outdated setup tutorials for popular Modules Amazon / Insta: @Bernard-h Authors of modules and documentation come and go. The ones that are still with us are happy to support their modules. Help for unsupported modules comes from the community, if possible. Documentation is slow to be updated if unsupported. I mean really, who wants to update someone else’s tutorial or readMe? It does happen, albeit, infrequently. As @sdetweil said, “This is a volunteer organization” and “in the open source world that leadoff (if someone) means YOU”. I’m sure you’ve noticed the level of help here. It’s pretty amazing, especially where @sdetweil is concerned. He’s a one man wrecking crew. (Shut up Sam, accept the praise gracefully). So, ask for help when you need it. Offer help where you can. And have those documents and tutorials up to date and rewritten by Monday morning. ;-) Seriously, have some fun. Monday? Why so long … should be able to have that done tonight…

Don’t change the resolution, change the overscan setting in /boot/config.txt. In your case I assume you will have to play with overscan_right and overscan_bottom hope it helps, good luck!

I added the remote control module to my magic mirror. Instead of displaying the appropriate MM screen when prompted to, it began to display the message please create a config file. I deleted the module I had added in the config file and saved the file. When I restarted the mirror, it just produced a black terminal with the word “electron” on the terminal header. I’m using raspberry pi B+, running on the latest update

This appears to be an issue with MMM-Remote-Control, which has a “MONITOROFF” command that I was using to turn off the display. That command executes tvservice -o, which according to this documentation “destroys any framebuffers/dispmanx layers associated with the display” that are not restored when the display comes back on. On their recommendation, I switched the command to vcgencmd display_power 0and my issues have gone away.

@sdetweil So I think my problem is solved. I really don’t know what happened, but I wanted to make a video how the monitor goes on and off and suddenly there is no problem anymore. Maybe it’s because I removed the tape which festend the circuit board or because I straightened up the mirror, I don’t know. But nevertheless thank you very much for your help. :)

Hi, I have looked aroudn to see how many electron.js processes MM2 will start and how much memory consume - no success. I have MM2 running since June 2019 with pm2 Core Modules (with google calender, weather, news, analog watch) MMM-pages MMM-page-indicator MMM-Spotify MMM-WienerLinien (local Transport in Vienna). After 2 days of running the consumption is approx 2 GB. (see pic1) After reboot it looks like this (pic2). main screen is a 7" touch display! running 2 days restarted Is this normal behaviour or is something wrong?
