      I use MMM-BackgroundSlideshow for this. I like that it can display picture info. It also has the ability to move forward and back through the pictures, although it seems to have a problem with that in the latest version. I use it to randomly access thousand of images across many folders.

        @ankonaskiff17 the module I referenced came from GitHub, I made a fork (linked copy), says so right under mine if you look.

        I wanted more features. so I added them.
        the original has not been updated in a long time.

        I don’t have experience with any others. I was just talking about 1. you are welcome to ignore anything I say.

          @sdetweil I take advice anywhere I can find it. I just meant that I don’t need to just search on the MM 3rd Party module page that Github is also fertile ground.

            @ankonaskiff17 yes, 3rd party modules are on GitHub… it’s just another list

                @MMRIZE I know all about 3rd party modules, some of which are well built, some others, not so much.
                Just reaching out to people who may have already done same sort of project to avoid picking one of the not so good modules.

                Kind of like Amazon, I don’t want to find 3 pieces of inferior product before stumbling on the quality module.

                  I see it’s been a while since you’ve posted, but I just wanted to ask if anyone has managed to mix in random folder sorting like “shuffle” for photos instead of date order. Also curious if newer versions of the MMM-BackgroundSlideshow module handle transitions better—mine sometimes skips or freezes with larger image sets. Would love to hear how others have fine-tuned theirs lately.

                    @Inferhide I use MMM-ImagesPhotos and don’t see those issued

                    What is a large image set?

                      Posting pictures on MM was something I am doing also. I’m using sdetweil
                      MMM-ImagesPhotos from third party modules. It was easy to setup and works well. You have to store your images in a local directory inside the module. It has several options available which I have not looked into yet. Just set it up yesterday.

                        @RonR the local folder can be linked(see the ln command) to a share mounted from another server source(in /etc/fstab)

                          @RonR

                          make the mount point

                          sudo mkdir /media/fileserver

                          in fstab, change username and password to the server folder
                          and the path to the server , this is my synology NAS

                          //192.168.2.32/media

                          //192.168.2.32/media /media/fileserver cifs username=xxxxx,password=yyyyyyyy,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777

                          before reboot

                          sudo mount -a

                          now

                          ls /media/fileserver

                          should show files

                          on reboot it will auto mount

                          now in the MMM-ImagesPhotos folder, move the uploads folder out of the way

                          mv uploads  o-uploads

                          now link the mount point there

                          sudo ln -s  /media/fileserver uploads

                          now

                          ls uploads

                          should show the files from the server
                          the ln command could link a subdirectory of the mount point too

                          in the MMM-ImagePhotos folder

                          ls -laF

                          should show

                          uploads --> /media/fileserver

                            I use MMM-BackgroundSlideshow to display random paintings from over 200 images. It seems to work pretty well.

                            All of the paintings are stored locally on the Pi, in a subdirectory of the module directory: ~/MagicMirror/modules/MMM-BackgroundSlideshow/Paintings

                                here’s how I did it.

                                1. Set up SAMBA on the pi, and include a mapping to your photos drive (I wouldn’t recommend keeping them locally)

                                2. magic mirror’s config, using MMM-Backgroundslideshow

                                /* Magic Mirror Config by Brendan Keyport. */
                                /* Office - Certificate Display */
                                var config = {
