Bonding glass and MDF
-
Hello all, I am planning to build my first magic mirror but unfortunately all build examples are based on a wooden frame. My magic mirror is planned as frameless. I want to someway glue a mdf backplate to twoway mirror, and want to hear your opinions about glue choices.
My first idea is using a 3m double sided tape (black). Do you know/advise any other options to hang 140cm x 50 cm mirror to wall, without using an outer frame? Thanks,
Alp

I am afraid I have no other choices. Was looking around and found these;

@ontheway16 as @johnnyboy mentioned, the 2 way mirrors often has the mirror coating on one side which can react to the glue and/or seperate from the glass. If you’re not sure do consult the manufacturer of the mirror you are using!

@broberg @johnnyboy Thanks for the replies, I will ask the manufacturer whether its a first or second surface mirror (https://spectrumscientifics.wordpress.com/2011/07/13/first-and-second-surface-mirrors/)
Best thing I can do will be testing glue alternatives on a piece of 2way mirror I am going to use, I think…

There are special double-sided mounting adhesive tapes for different material combinations. For example, I built an aluminum frame and glued the glass with a glass / aluminum strip from Würth. Holds bombproof and gives no problems with my mirror and the surface. ;)

@Goldjunge_Chriz
So your (and also mine) mirror glass can be glued to a surface? -
@yawns
Absolutely ;) you can see that on my pictures too :) -
