      @sdetweil Okay so the reason it hangs and doesn’t go to other sources is because of what exactly? Sorry just saw this and trying to get up to speed.

      I added the max news items where you said I think if I understand correctly (see config file below). I also changed the number to 0 inside the MMM-NewsFeedTicker.js.

      Where is the fetcher.js? Can’t find that file.

      The module keeps repeating NYT and USA Today and doesn’t move on to BBC or Ars Technica.

      {
      	disabled: false,
      	module: "MMM-NewsFeedTicker",
      	position: "bottom_bar",
      	//classes: "day_scheduler",
      	config: {
      		maxNewsItems: 0,

        @matthewlawson3

        Try this:

        Under the maxNewsItems that you just added to your config entry, add this

        updateInterval: 10 * 60 * 1000,

        The default is 1 minute, which effectively resets the module back to the beginning of the feeds. This will give it 10 minutes to display the feeds without resetting. Assuming this will work, adjust the time accordingly.

          @mykle1 Just added it. It brought the ticker to a crawl across the screen. Super slow.

              @sdetweil Ok I made the changes in the fetcher file hopefully. I really am kinda lost though as to what we are trying to do exactly. My main concern is that it goes to all 4 of the sources listed. NYT, USA Today, BBC, and Ars Technica. I haven’t seen Ars Technica at all.

              I may just give up and find another good news module.

                @matthewlawson3

                the modules collects all the entries and makes a big list, and then the module sorts them by published date.

                there could be over 300 entries… each takes 10 seconds, 3000 seconds is 5 hours,
                but the reload interval is 60 minutes, so it will wipe out the list and start over…

                  @sdetweil Okay. So looking at it now, I added in Fox News and took out Ars Technica. It shows me Fox News, NYT, USA Today, but doesn’t show BBC which is still in the feeds area.
                  Also, it seems to reset and replay a headline before it finishes it the first time.

                            @sdetweil @cowboysdude I am beginning to think I have something wrong with my code or that there is something wrong with my instance of MM. I went back to the default news module and added BBC, USA Today, and Fox News to the list and all I see displaying are BBC headlines. Now when I comment out BBC, Fox News will show. Odd. Can you see if you can see anything in my code? I have no idea what is going on. It has been on for 10 minutes and never leaves BBC.

                                @sdetweil so you think perhaps the BBC headlines are the latest?

                                I commented out the other news ticker we were discussing. Do you think it might be causing an issue? Should I uninstall?

                                    this module has a design problem…

                                    a request to get the feed content is started async for each source… so in this case there are 4 fetches going on at once.

                                    when A feed completes in the helper, it sends ALL feeds data (even if none yet) up to the module. (fastest wins)
                                    then second finishes and IT sends up the complete list
                                    and then third
                                    and then forth.

                                    and the useful list gets rebuilt over and over…
                                    and it keeps a counter into the list for the next item, BUT the list could get replaced with a smaller number of entries and the code will die… (‘hang’)

                                    so the item list gets redone over and over… and over…

                                      @sdetweil okay. That’s surprising considering it is the default news module for MM. I’ll find another option.

                                          @sdetweil Oh okay. The last code I posted is actually from the default news module, not the news ticker I was working on.

                                          I was trying the default one and it keeps repeating the same source over and over as well. It doesn’t go on to any of the other sources. It just repeats BBC for 10 minutes.

                                          I switched out BBC and added in a CNET RSS feed and it hangs on CNET now.

                                          Just for the heck of it I removed the code and module of the NewsTicker we have been discussing since the beginning of this post. Didn’t have any effect either.

                                            @sdetweil Edit: I believe I got the default news module to work. I apparently was missing some brackets around some of the source urls and that I think made the module not see the other sources.
