      @kerijn @fox I think I fixed this issue before, it comes from the changes the Magic Mirror version 2.1.0 introduced. I am not sure, but I think the changes neccessary are almost as simple as here. Will have to test this at home though. Maybe there was something else needed.

          @Jopyth This worked for me for the installation as well. Thank you! However, the sensor does not seem to do anything. How can I check whether the sensor is working properly?

              @Makradon @kerijn I found this. I think you could save this as test.py somewhere on your Pi and see if the output changes when you move and don’t move (set the pin number in the second line) after your start it with python test.py:

              import RPi.GPIO as GPIO
              pin = 11
              GPIO.setwarnings(False)
              GPIO.setmode(GPIO.BOARD)
              GPIO.setup(pin, GPIO.IN)         #Read output from PIR motion sensor
              
              while True:
                     i=GPIO.input(pin)
                     if i==0:                 #When output from motion sensor is LOW
                           print "No intruders",i
                           time.sleep(0.1)
                     elif i==1:               #When output from motion sensor is HIGH
                           print "Intruder detected",i
                           time.sleep(0.1)

                @Jopyth I had the same problem.
                Your work-around (installation) worked for me but the sensor does not seem to do anything…
                the test.py script shows me always “1” - also when nothing is moving in the room…

                  @thoimi Check for the correct wiring (PIN-Numbers can be confusing, there is the BCM numbering and the other one), also make sure GND and 5V are conncted correctly, adjust sensitivity to maximum and time to minimum (so it hopefully switch back and forth quickly), try covering up the sensor under a bowl or something and then put your hand in to test.

                  When I set up the sensor, I also searched for the error for hours, and at the end my problem was the sensor was plugged into pin 4 (BCM) and not 7 as I thought. Also I think you need to remove the , pull_up_down=GPIO.PUD_DOWN part (PIR example).

                    I tried for hours now… I think it’s connected correctly, because when I’m switching the pin-number in the script the script shows me always “0” - with the correct pin-number it shows me “1”…
                    I also put the sensor in a box - always shows me “1”… completely strange… :/

                      @thoimi It shows 1 because of the pull up resistor. Try removing that part, check my edited post above.

                      Edit: The 1 does not mean it is wired correctly, it just shows 1 because of the pull up resistor.

                        thank you for the updated script!
                        the new script also shows me “Intruder detected” … i tried many variations of time and sensitivity adjustments…

                        I found another script on the internet:

                        from gpiozero import MotionSensor
                        
                        pir = MotionSensor(4)
                        while True:
                            if pir.motion_detected:
                                print("Motion detected!")
                        

                        This script shows me also the “Motion detected” all the time…
                        Maybe the PIR-Sensor itself is the problem… I will try with another Sensor next week :(
