Using Image legal issue
These might be stupid questions, but I ask.
Do you know the “Photo of The Day” of NationalGeographic? I like those photos.
From time to time, I download a picture and use it as my desktop wallpaper. (private PC, not in office)
Q1) Is this illegal act? (It might depend on where I live. I live in Germany, EU. But I want to know usual cases)
Q2) If I make a script for downloading pics on my private PC. Is this illegal?
I think these are not illegal, for non-commercial personal usage by whatever licenses.
Q3) How about on the MagicMirror? Of course, this MM is located in my living room, not a public place.
Q4) This is the real Question. If I build a module for that and release, Will it cause a legal issue?
Sean I would say this…
Check their website to see if they have a ‘disclaimer’ saying that the images can be used for personal use and cannot be used for commercial purposes or something similar.
They do have a wallpaper section on their website that you can actually download images for your own use
I did find this->

If at all in doubt what I’ve done in the past is ask them if it’s okay for me to use the content. Most of the time I’ve been met with + results. Here’s the email to ask such a question : firstname.lastname@example.org
Ok, I’ll use this by myself alone forever.
@Sean Hahahhaahhaha nooooooooooooo you should share it… I really think they wouldn’t mind…BUT to clear up any issues I emailed them… I’ll let you know.
