Using Image legal issue
-
Hi, guys.
These might be stupid questions, but I ask.Do you know the āPhoto of The Dayā of NationalGeographic? I like those photos.
From time to time, I download a picture and use it as my desktop wallpaper. (private PC, not in office)
Q1) Is this illegal act? (It might depend on where I live. I live in Germany, EU. But I want to know usual cases)
Q2) If I make a script for downloading pics on my private PC. Is this illegal?
I think these are not illegal, for non-commercial personal usage by whatever licenses.Q3) How about on the MagicMirror? Of course, this MM is located in my living room, not a public place.
Q4) This is the real Question. If I build a module for that and release, Will it cause a legal issue?

Sean I would say thisā¦
Check their website to see if they have a ādisclaimerā saying that the images can be used for personal use and cannot be used for commercial purposes or something similar.
They do have a wallpaper section on their website that you can actually download images for your own use

I did find this->LIMITED CONTENT LICENSE
National Geographic hereby grants you a limited, revocable, nonsublicensable, nontransferable license, to access and display or perform the NG Content (excluding any software code) solely for your personal, non-commercial use, in connection with using the NG Services. The NG Services may also contain User Content. Most of the time Iāve been met with + results. Hereās the email to ask such a question : natgeocreative@natgeo.com

@cowboysdude really old thread, but I searched if there was a module for this and found this thread. Did you ever get a response from NG?

@retroflex
It is not allowed. Anyway, once I made a private module for this. But canāt share publicly. -
