And yes, Mykle is very correct about the voice issue.
The point I was really trying to make is that ubuntu uses the least amount of resources and turns a useless/worthless laptop into an excellent MM board that outperforms any Pi.
-
I would recommend a fan for any Pi running MM. I learned that quickly enough. :-)
-
@Mykle1 since I need some more raspi anyways I might just give it a 3b+ so I have a bit more power (I am at stable 83% cpu usage so the 17% should help a bit) and a already included cooler

When you get it installed on your Atom device, I would definitely like to know your outcome!
I have ubuntu, MM, and Hello Lucy running on a POS EeePC. The thing was ready for the trash. Amazing how well it runs now. Oh yeah, it’s an Atom processor.
-
Yeah, I’m just really stubborn im this old age I getting to… Still bound and determined to get it to run on Windows somehow!!!
I may be 75 or 90 by the time I figure it out, But, I ain’t giving up!!! :smiling_face_with_horns:

@Mykle1 without cooler I am at stable 77-78 degree I would say that sucks lol
@justjim1220 Lol just use windows for the stuff it"s made for (I guess like the name already implies it"s for throwing it out of the window) :smiling_face_with_horns:
-
Well, I wish you luck. I tried (half-heartedly) to get MM-voice and Hello Lucy to run under Windows. Once I got comfortable with ubuntu I realized the benefits where MM is concerned

With a simple fan my Pi mirror runs at a constant 43C
-
@Mykle1 In general the only reason I still use Windows is because Autodesk still does not have linux versions for the CAD software lol
-
@Mykle1 just took a cooler from a old PCB I had laying around and some thermal compound. saved me 25 degree
-
-
I’m not suggesting that you abandon Windows. I still have my Windows machine, too. I mean where MM is concerned. Do you need to have Autodesk and the CAD software running with MM?
-
-
@mykle1 ah no I mean in general. I wanted to drop windows already for months ;) But since I need the CAD software I can’t lol maybe I will go over to linux and put windows into a VM just for CAD Software
-
Well today I got a pi b+ into my hands and tested it right away. Well sadly there is no improvement at all. The video still runs smooth which I expected, however there is still 83% cpu load while playing it. Will give it a cooler and do not show it a lot of the time anyways so I guess I should be fine anyways
-
Were you expecting the Pi to perform like a desktop or laptop board? That’s just crazy. ;-)
-
@Mykle1 well your desktop has a gpu but a not a better cpu and ram is not used ;)
And yes expected a slightly better performance given the 17% more cpu speed. However I will just stop playing video files in electron which kills my cpu (83%).
So I tried I different way to show the video. I used magic mirror like I would normalways but the video I did not show in electron, but opened omxplayer to blend the video in.
I tested using top. It shows cpu usage for all cores so don’t wonder about numbers over 100%With the video on electron using a magic mirror module my cpu usage was at stable 250-260%. Using the omxplayer to show the video and showing the rest like I did the first time the CPU usage was different each time. It was always either in the 20% area or in the 150%. So it is a enormous improvement to the first option and makes it definetly possible to play it on a raspberry pi 3b ;)

Uhh, you lost me.
So it is a enormous improvement to the first option and makes it definetly possible to play it on a raspberry pi 3b
That is excellent news for those employing Hello-Lucy without the animated gif. Well done!
-
@Mykle1 Yes will create a omxplayer module for my mirror (although I am not sure wether I have the time this month)

Just making sure that Lucy works with MM v2.5.0. Also, tried using a screen capture app instead of my iphone. The screen capture app is not able to share the microphone with Lucy so this video is silent. However, the video seems nicer than a handheld iphone video.
Or, an older iphone video with audio of voice commands when Lucy was in development months ago.
