    • Magic alarm clock

Hello everyone, I am starting a school project which will be vaguely based off the magic mirror framework but instead would be an alarm clock/home hub

My plan is to use a small 10" OLED display paired with a motion sensor that would switch between just showing a clock to a full magic mirror ui depending on motion and the time of day, eg at night it will always show the time in large font but if it detects movement it will switch to the dashboard with all the modules and during the day it will permanently stick with the dashboard. I am also planning on implementing smart home control. I plan to update this thread with my progress as I go.

Any criticisms or suggestions will be helpful.

    • RE: Sync private iCloud calendar with MagicMirror

@maros One problem (which this thread was originally trying to solve) was the inability to prevent others from accessing the calendar. If a web crawler can find your link, they too will be able to read your calendar.

    • Running MM² as an offline demo with local module data references

Hi, as the title states, I am looking for a way to run mm² without an internet connection as a demo. It is for my end of year major project, and my MM² based smart display will need to run for days on end without connecting to the internet, since I will not have access to it to connect it to the internet when it is being marked. Is there a way I can change the modules so they refer to local files and not internet servers? I currently have the default calendar, weather, date and clock modules as well as mmm-localpublictransport (I think thats the name). It is also already setup to launch MM² when the raspberry pi is powered on.

I think that the calendar and module should be able to refer to a local iCal file, but the weather and public transport modules rely on complex API’s that I’m not quite sure how to localise.

      Any help/tips would be appreciated.

@maros you can add the bday calendar in the default calendar module by making your iCloud calendar public (tick the box circled in this screenshot), and you should be given a link that you can copy into the config file.
If you want to use google calendars, it should be similar. Just look up how to publicly share a google calendar, and get the link from there to put into your config.

@justjim1220 We are all able to do that, to clarify the issue. The objective is to find a way to use an iCloud calendar without having a public url, which is what your google calendar is currently using. By using a public URL, web crawlers are able to find and read your calendar events.

    • Web Scraper?

I am looking for anyone who has built a module with web scraping capabilities, I am looking to rewrite some code from a reddit bot that processes the data (in python), but I don’t know how to do it in JS. Has anyone done a module that can scrape data from a website and display a certain item?

    • RE: MMM-MyCommute

@alexny007 I created my account last week, and was presented with the billing screen, however I somehow managed to set it up without actually giving any information, seems to be a bug when you have multiple tabs open, which allows you to bypass it. It says that I have one set up, but when I go to view its details, it asks me to enter them.

    • RE: Magic alarm clock

@emlowe Thanks, but I can’t since I use the 10.1" adafruit display, looking at the pinout it seems there is a way to control it, but I will have to manually wire it to the pi and write up a driver.

    • RE: Magic alarm clock

@justjim1220 thanks for that, however it appears that it just turns off the display. I am either looking for a way to drop the backlight lower than default minimum (probably impossible) or some way of putting a layer to block most light.

@cowboysdude I know this is like 7 months later, but my parts only just arrived. Do you have any ideas on ways to block the backlight? a mirror order isn’t exactly possible with the cost, I was thinking maybe blockout blinds or some kind of privacy glass layer?
