  • Magic Mirror, moving, and the TSA

    Sorry if this is the wrong place for this post but I wasn’t sure where else it could go.

    But essentially I’m moving from one side of the country to another (still in the US) and I wanted to take my Magic Mirror with me in my carry on. I don’t trust the check in baggage even if it is labeled “fragile”.

    Just not sure how TSA would react to it. I’m sure people have packed and brought their desktops before, but this looks “scarier” to the uninitiated. Oh and I’m also brown, not stereotypical “terrorist brown” but in my experience it doesn’t really matter to the TSA, all they see is a brown man with a beard.

    Has anyone taken their MM with them when they moved? How did you manage it and did you have any issues?

    idk. How dangerous does this look? alt text https://imgur.com/icQZvLb

    Hmmm sorry to go a bit off topic but has anyone tried the new Assistant2Display module with the new GoogleAssistant? I can’t get it to work but I suspect I am missing something very obvious. I just don’t know what.

    I can’t get the screen, briefToday, or Pir to work. I don’t get any errors, just nothing happens.

    Config file:

    {
      module: "MMM-GoogleAssistant",
      position: "fullscreen_above",
      config: {
       A2DServer: {
          useA2D: true,
          },
        assistantConfig: {
          //latitude: 51.508530,
          //longitude: -0.076132,
          },
        micConfig: { // put there configuration generated by auto-installer
          recorder: "arecord",
          device: "plughw:2",
          },
        snowboy: {
          Model: "smart_mirror",
    	},
        }
    },
    {
      module: "MMM-Assistant2Display",
      position: "top_left",
      config: {
        debug:true,
      },
      pir: {
          usePir: true,
          pin: 4,
          reverseValue: false
      },
      screen: {
      useScreen: true,
      delay: 1 * 60 * 1000,
      turnOffDisplay: true,
      ecoMode: true,
      displayCounter: true,
      text: "Auto Turn Off Screen:",
      detectorSleeping: false,
      governorSleeping: false,
      rpi4: false
    },

    briefToday: {
          useBriefToday: true,
          welcome: "brief Today"
        },

    },

    I don’t see the debug working either? Nothing generated on the terminal while the mirror is running at least.

    Anyone see what I’m missing? I suspect it’s something super simple but I can’t figure out what.

  • RE: mmm assistant mk2

    Started partial installation tonight…and I can say: what an absolutely beautiful and efficient installer! This is the best installer I have seen for a module.

    I’m running it on a fresh installation of Raspberry Pi OS and fresh installation of MagicMirror with no other modules installed.

    Ran into a small hiccup during the post-installation process, during audio configuration for the speakers. I can’t get any sound output.

    It’s late so I will fiddle and experiment more tomorrow but in case anyone else runs into the same problem before I figure out a solution, I’ll leave some data below:

    Sending audio output via aux cable from pi to monitor and can confirm audio is working when playing a youtube video.

    Interestingly I hear a beep during this part of the installation, but nothing after that:

    EDIT:
    I couldn’t sleep so I continued playing. I set audio speaker output to 1,0 which should be the correct configuration for me even though I couldn’t hear anything and I was getting an error. HOWEVER, in the next portion where I had to setup my microphone, I was able to hear my own voice playback.

    Ran through the sample config example, and everything works perfectly with the brief testing I have done. Beautiful work Bugsounet!

    !!!

    I had thought you meant you were stepping down completely. I misunderstood, this is wonderful news!

    I will be checking for days for your new assistant then… and let me know if you take donations!

    @Bugsounet Ahh that makes sense. I’m sorry to hear that project is dead but I understand. I’m sorry you had to deal with so many crappy and ugly people; they don’t deserve anything from someone who put in so much hardwork and sweat as you have.

    Gah, I just wish I didn’t update my mirror yesterday. The last time I updated it was in February and everything was working perfectly. And of course when I updated, I didn’t bother making a backup. Valuable lesson learned though!

    I’ll take down my mirror for now I guess. But best of luck to you Bugsounet to anything you do in the future!

    @sdmydbr Dang, that is so simple. Here I was trying to figure out how to do it commands.

    Okay, but now, am I crazy or is MMM-AssistantMK2 now completely taken off github? Because I can’t find it anywhere. Damn it, right when I found a solution…

    I don’t suppose you or @sdetweil know where I could find a backup? Thank you again!

    @sdmydbr I wanted to try downgrading MK2 but I wasn’t sure how to. Sorry, I’m a bit inexperienced in all of this. What is the command? And what version did you use? Thank you!

    by look of it AssistantMK2 is to be replaced.

    What do you mean? That a new version will come out?

  • RE: MMM-AssistantMk2

    For second issue; Are you using other module to control to hide and show modules? Maybe it makes to show specific module by force. There is no way to prevent force revealing by other module.

    https://github.com/MichMich/MagicMirror/blob/master/modules/README.md#visibility-locking

    No luck here, I ended up doing a fresh install with no other modules installed and it still happens. Can’t figure why it only applies to the default weather app, even if I move the position.

    I can’t figure out why no one else has this issue. Oh well, I guess I can just not use the “hide all” command though. Thanks!
