Using an Old (2 years old) windows Laptop in place of raspberry pi.

I’ve only just discovered magic mirror and i would like to build one, I have an old laptop that I don’t use anymore, i switched to OSX, and was wondering if/how I could use the laptop instead of buying a new system, I have all the parts to build one already, I’m just unable to find a guide where I could find a way to use the pc instead.

Install linux on the laptop, and then install magicmirror using the manuall installation as found here.

Perhaps there will be some glitches because MagicMirror was designed for raspberry pi but I did it with an old laptop for testing purpose and it worked fine. Currently I am working with magicmirror on a windows machine, and here i get a lot more glitches because i cant install the same programs (“sudo apt-get” doesnt exist ;)

@johnnyboy missing something.
I’ve tried it on a Linux laptop and a Windows laptop.
On Linux it worked good, but on the windows machine partially worked, as I am limited by the fact that some of the programs that are needed can’t be installed as they only works on Linux.

I, too, started with a Windows machine, but it is possible to install MM and get it running, just in a roundabout way.

Then I installed uBuntu on a laptop and installed MM and that went quite smoothly.

You want the best of both worlds? When you install uBuntu on a PC or laptop there is an option to install it alongside of Windows, making it a dual boot machine.
