My MM2 is running well under Ubuntu 18.04. I’ve installed pm2 and that works as well to start/stop MM2. However, I’m not able to get pm2 to work when using crontab. My crontab script looks like this:
40 * * * * pm2 restart mm.sh
so I can restart MM2 at 40 minutes after each hour. I don’t really plan to restart MM2 that often, I just want to get this working. I don’t know my way around Linux well enough to figure out what’s wrong. Can anyone point me to solution or an approach to one? Thanks!
@sdetweil I thought about using your scripts since I’ve used them for other installs and they worked perfectly. Since I had no idea how this install would go, I thought I’d do it stepwise, manually, in hopes of spotting where in the installation things went wrong. As it turned out, it went smoothly. Just as an aside, this pseudo WindowsXP GUI for the RPi 4 is pretty cool!

I was curious to see how MM2 would work with that OS so I downloaded and installed it onto a RPi 4 (required) and it all worked just fine.

@sdetweil Yes, it’s a Windows 10 laptop with a detachable screen that becomes a tablet basically.
“Runs fine” = On the laptop, using Git Bash, I can start the MM2 normally with “npm start”.
“Run it remotely” = The MM2 running on the tablet part of the laptop will sit in the kitchen (no keyboard or mouse). I want to manage it from my desktop in my office using Git Bash ssh connection.
The laptop came with Edge, but I’ve been using Chrome.

I’ve installed MM2 on a new RCA Cambio. This little, cheap ($75) Windows 10 laptop (with a detachable screen that turns into a tablet) is meant to be an information MM2 in the kitchen. I got it up and running fine (following steps provided here), but I’d like to be able to run it remotely (e.g. when just the tablet is sitting in the kitchen). I can SSH to it using Git Bash and I see the start.sh script steps completing, but nothing ever happens on the tablet’s screen. It stays on the Windows 10 desktop. It starts fine using its own keyboard. I’m just wondering where I should look for a solution to this problem. Any ideas??? Thanks!
@Mykle1 Yeah, I get it. There’s so much I don’t know about what the MM can do and it appears I’m going to have extra time to learn while I “stay at home” in coming weeks/months. Watching your “Hello Lucy” video has encouraged me to dig into the MM documentation more.
@Mykle1 I’ve got 4 of them currently staring at me and I’ve only got 2 eyes. Seems like overkill to me. Actually, I’m testing the Ubuntu and MacMini MM2s that will, eventually, replace the two MM2s based on RPi.
@sdetweil On a side note…I updated my old Toshiba NB 205 laptop to Ubuntu Mate and tried to manually install MM2. After a few unsuccessful attempts, I used your script on Github and it ran through the installation and started up the new MM2 successfully in one attempt. THANKS! Since I’m “staying at home” due to the virus, I’ve now gotten MM2 to run on a Windows 10 PC, Mac Mini and now Ubuntu Mate. And…in the process, I’ve learned a great deal! Now, all I have to figure out is what I’m going to do with all these MM2s! :slightly_smiling_face:
@Mykle1 Yep, I had an old Toshiba NB205 laptop that I had converted to Ubuntu a couple years ago. I updated the OS and installed MM2 without a single hitch. Nice!
@Mykle1 Nope, missed the video the first time. Now seen. Amazing! Being a relatively new MM2 user, I didn’t know about hiding/showing pages or Hello-Lucy. Once I get my new MM2s up and running I’ll check into it.
@Mykle1 I will definitely take a look at Ubuntu. I got here since 1 of my 2 MM2 running with RPi isn’t stable enough and I’ve run out of things to try. I also have an old MacMini that I’m going to try. Thanks for the encouragement!
@Mykle1 May I butt in here. I was the one who started the question. I had to change the “start:” string in the package.json file to:
“start”:“node_modules/.bin/electron js/electron.js”
As Sam instructed. Once I did that, the “npm start” command got my MM2 running.
Thanks, BTW, for creating the walkthrough. I’m thrilled to have MM2 running on my old Acer laptop!
