@aab142 windows … ugh… the script needs access to bash but doesn’t understand ./
so remove the ./

I’ve started this installation process from 3 years ago on an old Acer laptop running Windows 10. It’s installing MM2 right now. Just wondering…have the walkthrough steps/commands changed in the intervening 3 years in any way that I need to know? I scanned the 85 posts and didn’t see any, but I could have missed it/them. Thanks! And, I’m really glad this topic is still alive!

@aab142 u need to change the startstring to
"start":"node_modules/.bin/electron js/electron.js" -
@sdetweil Perfect timing…thanks! I was trying “npm start” and “npm serveronly” with no luck. I’ll give it a go.
-
Just for clarity, I enter (without starting/ending quotes), npm “start”:“node_modules/.bin/electron js/electron.js”???
-
@dwburger you have to change the “start”: line in package.json to the text I provided
-
OK…I’ll work on that.
-
@dwburger then npm start will work…
npm ???, executes the script next to ??? in package.json
-
@sdetweil Yep, it works…thanks!
-
Sam, is there something that I need to change in the original post that is causing problems?
-
@Mykle1 May I butt in here. I was the one who started the question. I had to change the “start:” string in the package.json file to:
“start”:“node_modules/.bin/electron js/electron.js”
As Sam instructed. Once I did that, the “npm start” command got my MM2 running.
Thanks, BTW, for creating the walkthrough. I’m thrilled to have MM2 running on my old Acer laptop!
-
Oh, I thought perhaps something in the tutorial was wrong. I did not know that MM changed in a way that caused the tutorial to fail. :-(

You’re welcome. When I wrote this I was thrilled as well and have since moved to strictly laptop boards, However, I moved from Windows to ubuntu and I’ve never been happier. MM loves linux (ubuntu) and runs beautifully under it, without jumping through any hoops for Windows. It also uses far less resources than Windows. Consider it. You won’t be sorry.
And here it is.

@Mykle1 I will definitely take a look at Ubuntu. I got here since 1 of my 2 MM2 running with RPi isn’t stable enough and I’ve run out of things to try. I also have an old MacMini that I’m going to try. Thanks for the encouragement!
-
Dude, you’ll have so much fun doing it. I guarantee it! (Well, almost). But I did. And your MacMini? I’ve done Mac boards with ubuntu and MM, as well.
Here. Take a look.
-
@Mykle1 Nice!
-
Did you watch the video? Not bad for a useless, early gen, white iMac
-
@Mykle1 Nope, missed the video the first time. Now seen. Amazing! Being a relatively new MM2 user, I didn’t know about hiding/showing pages or Hello-Lucy. Once I get my new MM2s up and running I’ll check into it.
-
@Mykle1 in 2.9 they introduced run-start.sh to fix the custom.css erasure problem. I extended it in 2.10.
But it won’t work on windows at all.
I didn’t know that til last week. I did test on the Linux runtime in Windows, but never on windows native.

Ah, ok, thanks
