I also downgraded electron to 1.4.15 and I’m seeing dramatically improved performance!

Forgive me if this is dumb, but couldn’t you just delete the electron folder and reinstall a specific version with

      Npm install electron@version?

Sorry for the radio silence, it’s been busy lately.

I can see what electron version I’m running tomorrow night, and I’ll try and change it to the same version you seem to be getting good performance on and report back.

@TiemenMoesker I tried two pies with exactly the same result. My spikes are way higher than 55%, on the order of max processing.

@TiemenMoesker it feels good to get some validation that I may not actually be crazy and there is a problem. Hahaha

I’ve done that, both ways giving the gpu more ram and less ram and that doesn’t seem to solve it for me.

I did remove all the excess on other installs I did but there’s no other processes running anyway to take away cpu time.

Is there anything to do after using the install script? Am I missing some next step?

Can you think of anything dumb i didn’t do once it’s installed? Like change a config file or anything?

Well I just installed everything on a brand new SanDisk extreme u3 MicroSD. And it’s still using all my dang cpu and the transitions are still so laggy.

I think I’ve tried everything at this point.

I’m beginning to think it’s the SD card. I did a clean install of Raspian on the SanDisk ultra which is the same class (u1) as the other card which was plain black and it seemed like it was a twinge better but not fantastic. Thanks for your input cowboysdude.

I ordered a SanDisk extreme u3 which will get here tomorrow and try that and report back in. Don’t take your mirror down haha

Just to rule out one more variable: the pi 3 should be fine running at 1080p yes?

My last ditch effort is to try a new SD card. The card it came with is a SanDisk 32gb card and it’s just a plain black card and I have this otherone which is a SanDisk ultra 32gb card so maybe that does something.

Well I ordered a new pi 3 on Amazon and did a fresh install it’s the same thing all over again. Every time the text changes on magic mirror it maxes out my cpu. And it’s starting to overheat as well and I didn’t even change any overclock settings.

Quite infuriating honestly. I don’t know what I’ll try next.

      @Snille

My hardware is also BCM2835 revision a02082 , just like Snille. I have another micro SD I think floating around somewhere in my house, I’ll try and do a clean install of rapsian stretch lite on it tomorrow and use the auto install script on that and see how that goes. Fingers crossed I just got a crappy SD card or something.

Speaking of hardware, and this may be a dumb question, but any chance the mouse and keyboard are causing this performance hitch? I just plugged in the ones on my desk which are the corsair strafe and logitech g600, both more intricate than normal pnp mouse and keyboard…

I’m running a full version. I intend on reinstalling Raspian lite when I have some free time if I can’t troubleshoot it until then.

When I was installing electron, I tried to install it globally with the -g command like it suggested in the electron readme. However it said I didn’t have permission and I tried to repeat it with sudo and it still said the same thing. Not sure if that means anything significant. I did get it to install non globally with no errors but I dunno if that may be my problem.
