Super nooby question- How to configure the downloaded modules and weather wont show up
-
@ghaal Don’t feel bad so far I’ve broken a 32" tv and a 24" monitor… that’s some of the stuff I’ve broken LOL
-
@hartattack Okay, I got to the config folder. I saw all my modules there and I edited the weather modules so they have the location ID an appid and clock module so it has the 12 hour format, saved, and restarted my Pi. I turned on the Pi using:
pi@magicpi:~ $ cd MagicMirror/config
pi@magicpi:~/MagicMirror/config $ cp config.js.sample config.js
You can now try to start MagicMirror².pi@magicpi:~/MagicMirror/config $ cd $HOME/MagicMirror
pi@magicpi:~/MagicMirror $ npm startI got that code from: https://forum.magicmirror.builders/topic/236/complete-setup-tutorial/6
When I turned it on though, none of the edits I made were showing. The weather wasn’t showing and the clock was still in 24 hour format. When I went to the config folder none of the previous edits were there.

@Mykle1 I don’t have it and I don’t know what it is TBH. Is it an app or an online thing, or something integrated into this forum?

It sounds like you didn’t save the config.js after you edited it. Copy and paste your config.js here so we can take a look at it.

I don’t know if anyone is there right now but i’ll be there 3 hours from now. If you can make it then I’ll try to help you
-
@Mykle1 I will, but I can’t do that until an hour or two
-
@ghaal this line
cp config.js.sample config.js
Copys the sample config to the config.js file and should only be done once. If you do this everytime you start your mirror you will keep replacing your config.j s file with the sample config. -
@broberg I don’t get it. I have not copied any file into another one (does it automatically happen?) Should I copy this file? How? I have tried editing the regular config, and haven’t touched the sample one. Should I?
-
@ghaal you copy the sample file ONCE after you have installed the mirror software.
But it looked like you where repeating the copy command (
cp = copy
) before you started the mirror (npm start
) and IF you do this each time, it doesn’t matter what you have saved in the config.js file since it will be overwritten each time you type in :cp config.js.sample config.js
