Hello all my name is Armando, and i’m new to the Magic Mirror scene so please bare with me.

I ran across this thread and i was wondering if anyone has used similar setup like @Mykle1. I’m looking to add a touch overlay behind the acrylic glass? if you have how did it respond and i am looking to use the mirror side of the acrylic.

I found a few places that sell Smart glass but they are kinda expensive. if you know any inexpensive smart glass sites please let me know
      thanks inadvance

I’m going to be working on this soon, after I get my modules reacting to my mouse. I think putting a transparent capacitive touch panel, in front of the mirror, might give you this effect. If you want to put the mirror on top though, I think you’re looking for a resistive touch panel.

I’m using a 32" IR Touch frame… it works REALLY well… very responsive.

Yes, but he would like to know if works with acrylic as opposed to actual glass. I could not help him as I don’t have real glass OR a touch screen.

An IR-frame isn’t affected by the type of mirror (since it is placed in front of everything).

Touch foils (pcap) however can’t be used on glass with metallic coatings, which most of the mirrors have, because the metal distorts the readings of the foil sensors.

With that said I don’t know how the touch foil would react behind an acrylic mirror but my guess is that it most likely won’t work. (As most plastics are prone to get staticly charged and that could probably have a negative impact on the touch foil as well).

This could actually work, it will build on the thickness and weight of the mirror but you could have a really thin frame instead of a IR-frame around it.

So it would be layers like :

                Glass
                Touch foil
                Air gap
                Mirror
                Screen

I’m using an IR frame with standard window glass (1/8") thick.

@cowboysdude Yes mykle1 is correct. My plan is to turn it into a selfie mirror. i ran across this website that claims their glass works well with touch screens but like most people on their first build i’m trying to keep the cost down. So if i could use the same acrylic as opposed to a $350 glass i want to do it.

@Hoosierdad I paid about 110.00 for my IR frame…but I"m in the US too. I’m hearing horror stories of people paying HUGE amounts of money for shipping… just be careful whatever you decide :)

@MattZw where did you place the IR frame? Is it on the mirror or the monitor?

@MMENT08048 I’m in the beginning stages of making one too. Since your using IR then you are using real glass? I am looking to buy a 36 x 60 inch 2way mirror. I was quoted $2500.00 U.S. Dollars. It’s seems a bit much, can you share what you are finding or maybe you have bought it by now. I heard to use Dialect Glass. Can you let me know any information about the he glass you have found. Acrylic it real glass? Thank you

@stilly8 hello. I haven’t ordered yet but from what I’ve been reading acrylic seems to be the cheapest and works fine. Let me know how your build goes. I’m excited to work on this project!

@cowboysdude Hi, I have my MM up and running but can’t seem to get my 42” IR Touch Frame to adjust from Landscape mode to Portrait. I swipe up but the cursor moves left. I installed Xinput but not having any luck :(
How did you get you IR calibrated?
