          OK BIG update…

I’ve decided after trying to figure some things out and I have come to this conclusion:

          1. I’m CLEARLY not going to get help with a thing or two I asked for help on, that’s okay… people are busy or just not interested either way I have learned some useful information…
          2. I have to choose a new platform [that would work best with controlling things, still using MM as a backbone] that will give me what I want, I’ll be doing research on this to figure out what works best.

I’m open to suggestions for this:

My goal is to be able to control my therm, door lock, see temp and humidity in every room…control lights…

If anyone has had luck with the above feel free to offer suggestions!! I’m looking for hardware and api input.

          Thanks in advance!

@cowboysdude - Sounds like you’re trying to build a homebrew version of something like a Crestron system ?

Have you thought about using OpenHAB ? It would seem to fit what you’re trying to do, but it’s not an MM system, it’s designed more as a standalone solution.

The issue I’ve found with IoT devices is finding companies that will release the API to “non commercial” people (ie, if you’re a company, they’ll let you access the API, if a home user, no chance). I’ve had this with my heating system who’ve told me in no uncertain terms I can’t have access to the API for their product. Given I already queried the quantity of data they’re shipping back to their servers (in the name of providing a “seamless and responsive user experience”), I don’t think they want me having a peek inside their system.

OpenHab is a great idea…I have read a little about it but don’t fully understand it as of yet :)

Here’s a picture of what this is starting to shape up to be…There are MANY things missing but you’ll get the idea :)

I was inspired by your post and am gathering components to set up not only a mirror but my home server there.

One thing is bugging me…noise. my mirror wil be located in the main bedroom where we sleep…
What cooling are you using? How noisy?
                    Tx

I’m running a mini itx motherboard and it doesn’t make a peep… I have an expensive cpu fan that you don’t even hear run :) It’s as quiet as if it’s not even there…

                      This is the fan…

It’s outstanding actually. When I get it back up running [building frame right now so give me a day or two] then I’ll take pics and post them for you!

It’s just a Vizio 32" TV… I am truly amazed at the quality of the picture!!! I’ll also look on the back of the TV to see what model it is… That way we can get specs and you can look for any brand TV with those specs :)
