monitor - disassemble or not?
-
Hi, not sure if this is in the right place.
so no ive got my pi almost set up to my liking, it will soon be time to mount monitor behind my mirror, question is do you recommend disassembling the plastic case and then mount the monitor panel for a tighter fit to the glass or does it matter?
thanks,
Richie -
I suppose it depends on the monitor. I took the front off mine, will likely have to shim it back a hair from the glass due to it having a metal piece on the bottom and nowhere else… undecided if I’m going to take the plastics off the sides and back or use the VESA mount to secure it in it’s final case…

You will get the best result from disassembling the case. Should be easy for most cases, just be wary of not ripping any of the cords.

It’s usually not hard to take it out and it allows you to have the monitor closer to the glass, it makes the monitor less thick so your frame doesn’t have to be so deep, it allows you to place your monitor more freely…
I guess it depends on the monitor, but with mine I wouldn’t have had a good result with the frame still on, it was way too clunky and thick.

i have a 23" LG monitor, thin enough but i might still look at removing the plastic!
thanks folks! :)

Personally, I want the mirror as close to the monitor glass as possible. I’ve made a few mirrors. In all cases, that meant removing the front bezel from the monitor at the very least. With that in mind, do it whatever way makes you happiest. :-)

@banbutcher
I wish I knew how to disassemble a monitor
I tried it once but the monitor did not survive because of short circuitSo far I just glued the mirror glas onto the frame of my 24 inch Benq monitor

@thedoorsfanatic clearly you cut a wire when pulling it apart. use plastic, patience, and small moves.

@thedoorsfanatic Try to find a guide on youtube on how to disassemble a benq monitor. I just googled for “disassebmle benq monitor” and found a few videos on yt. Maybe your model is amongst them.
