      Hello Everyone

My Mirror Project is already finished since a couple months, but i had no “time” :-) to post it here.

First, thank you very much @MichMich and @j.e.f.f for this amazing Idea and the modules i can use for this.
It’s a pleasure to stand up in the morning, looking on the screen to see the traffic, calender and weather information in this esthetic manner

The screen is always off until the radard sensor detects motion in front of the display.
I used Douglas wood because its cheap and has intresting visual structure ^^

      Parts

      product cost
Mirror Glass ~149x36cm (Glas Trösch, Switzerland) 66€
Douglas wood for the frame (OBI) 25€
      27" Philips monitor spare - 0€
      Raspberry Pi 3 incl. powersupply ~ 57€
      Radar sensor (RCWL0516) 8€
      DHT22 Temp & Hum Sensor (Seeed 101020019) 15€
Screws and little stuff ~ 10€
      Total ~ 181€

      Modules

      • MMM-MyCalendar
      • MMM-MyCommute
      • MMM-MyWeather
      • MMM-MyWastePickup
      • MMM-PIR-Sensor replaced with MM-Display-Controller
thats an os-deamon based solutions, because PIR sensor doesn’t work anymore since MM 2.4 and OpenGL…

Very nice build! What are the transmission values for your mirror? Have the Mirropane Chrome Spy with 8% and I am not too happy about it. The modules aren’t easy to read when it’s bright. Even in the night when I just turn on the light.

          Would interest me as well.
Also, your mirror seems very cheap! (and that in SWITZERLAND :-))

Thank you very much. I saw they are also in Germany. I will call them up tomorrow and ask for prices for the mirror and for shipping. If it’s really that cheap I will order one with 12% and with 20% transmission and see which one fits best.

How far does your radar detector detect through the glass?

                    @maxbachmann
Its in the middle behind the thick wood and it detects at least 4m. (would be more if there would be no wood, just the glass :-)
Due to the position across from my wardrobe thats fine but if the range is too faar for detection it would be possible to reduce it with a resistor.

Nice work, i see you used a radar sensor.
How and where exactly did you attach this?

I am also curious about the prices of the mirror and shipping costs.

FYI: Glastroesch.de doesn’t ship their mirrors. They also do not directly sell to private people but give you a contact that does. Apparently they are around Ulm (for those that live close enough).

                                Hi kruemel,

                                good job… looks very professional.
Since I’m using the same RCWL0516 motion sensor I have also some questions:

                                • How did you mount it that it is working through the glass?
I tried id with my Mirropane Chrome Spy 4mm but there was no detection trough the glass at all.
                                • Maybe you can share some pictures especially of the motion sensor?

                                Thanks, onkelbobby

                                        @onkelbobby Hi, thank you :-)

I just mounted the sensor on a piece of wood behind the glass (to reduce the range a little bit without a tresistor) instead of directly behind the glass.

If you need i can make a picture but i think the illustration should do the job ;-)

@kruemel which bits did you use to cut the wood.

Looks like you started with a 2x4, cut into a L shape with a ledge, put a smaller strip of wood to hold the mirror and display in.

its nicely done so i was curious.

I just picked up a table saw so i can do a datto cut in wood.

I’m just wondering why my sensor is no working trough the glass wood combination (Mirropane Chrome Spy 4mm + plywood 5mm)

Anyway, I found another way to mount it almost invisible.
