@xy86 you have to get in to the magic mirror folder first before you can run npm start

      Ie type
      cd MagicMirror
      And then
      npm start

      Or
      display=:0 npm start
If you are running it via ssh

    • RE: MMM-doomsDay - The countdown module,

@pjkoeleman nope, probably a timezone issue on the Pi itself, does the clock work correctly? daylight saving time?

Try changing the time from 24:00:00 to 23:59:00

First, the timezone is set in the raspberry config, ( sudo raspi-config )

Secondly, google “newssite” + rss to find the links for the xml feed (http://www.npr.org/rss/rss.php?id=1001)

    • RE: Pilkington mirror and Silicone

@johnnyboy I have sawn out some thin 14x2mm strips of the same material as the box that will be glued around the edges, so the MDF won’t be visible (it’s the wood you can see in the reflection of the mirror).

The first thought was to make the entire frame of it, but once cut of from the board the frame parts warped a lot. :P

Nah, My glass is like 3% light transmission and 57% reflection, so it’s not ideal for bright environments. Have to make everything on the display 40% larger to get readable text.

Every man should have a bike inside, it’s classy :D
(my kitchen table is the work bench, the last 2 years I have had my gpz900R engine in pieces laying on top of it :D )

@johnnyboy So what I settled for was to start with 400 wet to get rid of the worst scratches and then went over it all with 800 wet, and I’m probably leaving it there, it got that more brushed look which will fit in with the stainless sink below it. But If you want it more shiny this is the way to go and then 1200 wet and a polish after that!

my MDF frame is 16mm thick and 46mm deep, and as you can see the screen fixture is pretty basic (layed it all down and glued in some spare MDF bits around the screen) But this way it will stay fixed and I can still remove the entire monitor with ease for installation in the house later on.

I’m fixing the glass and the frame to the box with 2pc 50cm piano-hinges at the top and several magnets at the bottom (so the mirror will be easy to open to access the PI and everything else.

I used 2 comp Epoxy to fix the aluminium to the glass, didn’t get it perfect so I also filled the tiny gaps in the corners with some “liquid metal”, which basically is polyester and aluminium dust. Still a color difference, but at least no gaps.

I then used a glue called BT Multibond, which is a flexible glue, more like silicone, leaves a rubbery feel when cured. To fix the MDF frame to the glass and aluminium.

@hawkesley reading the readme file tells you that you can set displayMessage to true, ie display the message is possible. Install it and try it. Eitherway you need some app like pushbullet to forward the sms text to other devices.

    • RE: My Square MagicMirror - Wooden Frame

@istepgueu Ahh, almost the same but with less reflection, according to specs it is

      6mm Single glazed Bronze
      Light Transmission is 44%
      Light Reflection is 33/28%

I’m impressed that you don’t really see any backlighting from the screen!

    • RE: Dark Material UI

@sero yeah, adjusting for the lost light through the mirror should give a similar effect, and as stated, it all depends on the mirrors light transmission, a 30-40% mirror would probably display most of the dark colors without any issues.

    • RE: Dark Material UI

@sero well, the reason there is mostly white on black is because the mirror glass usually eats up all the small changes in dark colors.

In my case with very little light transmission your idea wouldn’t show at all,

High contrast interfaces usually gives the best smartmirror appearence at the moment.

    • RE: youtube - Embedded YouTube on Your MagicMirror

This will please many users! @wizz will love it I think ;)

I would suggest you merge the Pull request on github from fewieden to make it easier for people to change the video in the config file instead of altering the module code!

And, format your first post so it conforms to the showcase guidelines : https://forum.magicmirror.builders/topic/1440/showcase-guidelines

@TheMexicoon Should work on android as well as long as the android OS and IR-Frame support each others.

The frame should just be recognized and used as any other input (like mouse or keyboard), no coding should be necessary.

    • RE: How do I make my 27" monitor (smartmirror) touchscreen *using raspberry Pi*

@TheMexicoon The IR-frame mounts on top of the mirror frame, so it doesn’t really care what type of monitor you use, as long as the size of the frame is the same as the monitor. Most of the IR-frames for sale out there works on Linux, so in theory almost all IR-frames will work with the Raspberry Pi

@johnnyboy pointed however out that you probably only get single-touch on linux, atleast I think it was Johnny
