      Hi @roxx

      Did you get your EW2775ZH?

With its contrast, brightness and thickness it seems the best option for me as well at this moment. What is the thickness after removing it from its case?

Hi, i have removed the case yesterday… Will post details and pics soon… I need some time…

So I guess this is the first module you’ll install:
      https://forum.magicmirror.builders/topic/1370/mmm-horoscope-daily-horoscope

Thanks, i will try it… May be i start reading daily 😊

First modules to install were the default modules 😂 then i installed email, etc… But overtall building the case, frame of magic mirror is pending…

Finally i decided to bulid Magic Mirror hardware part first… Because installing modules and editing config.js, making changes to how it looks, it is like super extra long process for me… I am a newbie and its hard for me to write the code, edit CSS etc.

    • Horoscope!

Hi all, i just want to share this with you guys…

everyday after coming home from work i work in making my Magic Mirror, mostly the hardware part currently i am working on… . I mean cooling fan, power adaptors etc…

today i had planned to rip open & disassemble my monitor… and dont know why today i thought to read my horoscope,… just like that… i dont usually read it…

      My horoscope said:
Sudden and unexpected problems could have your household in chaos, Aries. This probably doesn’t relate to difficulties with your housemates. It’s more likely to involve problems with wiring, appliances, or phone lines. It could be annoying to deal with repairmen in and out of your house, but you will have to bear with it. You want your household back to normal as soon as possible.

So today i cancelled to work on monitor, i dont wanna blow up fuse or something!! …instead i am working on the frame drawing, etc…

      my horoscope

I dont really believe in it but still to be on the safe side i am not doing anything with wires & electricity today…!!

      Thanks!!

    • Backup Magic Mirror..?

      hello friends…
i am just wondering, is there a way to backup all modules, custom files, i mean all the changes we make & new files we add on Rpi just after a fresh install of Magic Mirror…? … like a module? or a command? to backup to google drive or so? i mean like it happens on whatsapp…!!

we could copy the files from memory card but what about files on Rpi…?

if something goes wrong, we could install fresh new Magic Mirror, then download backup, place it on Rpi & memory card… and its good to run again…!!!

Here is a list of the modules that I am using that I forgot to enter at the end of my story.

MMM-Remote Control - An absolute “must have” module. With it, I use my iPhone to turn other modules off and on. It impresses the hell out of people. It impresses the hell out of me! You can also access it on any computer on your network. Brilliant!

compliments - I use it for insults, too. “You look fat in that dress!” is my favorite.

planetrise - I’m an amateur astronomer with a telescope. Having this information at a glance is simply fantastic!

alert - One of the default modules

MMM-Simple-Logo - 3 instances, 2 you can see. The picture I drew in high school and the YES logo at the bottom right and left. A picture of me is hidden via MMM-Remote Control. I mean really, who wants to see that? ;-)

MMM-Globe - Another “must have” for me. Every ten minutes I get a picture of earth from the Japanese Himawari-8 weather satellite displayed on my mirror? Sign me up.

clock - One of the default modules

calendar - I combined the free US Holidays calendar with my Google calendar. Excellent!

currentweather - One of the default modules. Very nice.

weatherforecast - One of the default modules. Also very nice.

MMM-SystemStats - Hidden via MMM-Remote Control in the pictures. When I want to check system temperature, system load and free ram I just show it for a moment and hide it again.

newsfeed - One of the default modules. I happen to be in NYC so that’s just perfect for me

hey! how to combine free US Holidays calendar with our Google calendar? i wish to combine indian holidays… thanks.

MMM-GoogleAssistant is not mine. :D it is nothing related with MMM-Hotword or MMM-AssistantMk2 (or even deprecated MMM-Assistant)
Anyway if you have a problem on installation or usage, leave an issue on github. I’ll support.

yep, i have submitted an issue, issue #56. thanks.

use MMM-AssistantMk2. It is a newer version, maybe this is not supported.

From the Github page: “(Deprecated) This project is not supported any more from original owner. Use alternative MMM-AssistantMk2”

Thanks, will try this mk2 module…

    • RE: Monitor for MagicMirror, 22-26 inch

Hello friends, previously selected monitor to buy was 24inch BenQ GW2470ML available on Amazon GW2470ML

But, i came across another monitor which are 27 inch and thought i could go for a bigger screen… So i request you friends to take a look and suggest me which is worth buying… These are the other two monitors…

Acer S271 HLG 27" on amazon also see details on acer

BenQ 27" on amazon also see details on benq

How are these 27inch monitors? Should i buy previously selected 24in or 27in monitors… I think bigger is better if its worth to buy for magic mirror…i am tempted to buy the bigger screen monitor… Suggest me one out of these…

    • RE: Cooling solution for LCD monitor?

@dæmoneyes …FAN 1 I am using 12v 0.18A CPU Cooling Fan, but i power it with a Laptop charger 1 with 16v 3.5A output so it gives better performance and makes a bit noise, i think we wont hear the noise when its all packed & built in the wooden frame… I had fully opened the fan, cleaned and lubricated it, also works with another Laptop charger 2 with 19v 4.5A output, same noise, superb extra speedy air flow!!! It doesn’t get hot when kept on for 2hours… This is mounted on top side of Rpi3B+, the air will be blown on RPi and then i will direct it to make it flow to the AC/DC adapters…

FAN 2 Rpi 5v fan, 30x30x30mm… I power it with mobile phone charger 5v 1A… I dont want to power it from Rpi… Tried to power it with 10v 2A but it rotates with ultra high speed, low noise… But it got super hot in just a second… So i m not overpowering this one, also its small… Mounted at bottom side of Rpi…

FAN 3 12v 0.18A CPU Fan, will be using this as the main air sucker in the wooden frame… Powered with Laptop charger 2
fan 1 and fan 3 are same model, using both with different power input.

Finally i will direct all air to monitor…
During building the wooden frame i may add another small fans to add the air flow for monitor if it gets hot like you had… . The built will be a bulky one in L shaped… It will be divided into 2 wodden box… Will share it when completed…

And your idea is good for me to use heat sinks as i have a few and got no other use…
      Thanks.

@dæmoneyes said in Cooling solution for LCD monitor?:

@roxx nice! So Im guessing your’s is a pretty big build then. Looking forward to seeing you post it!
Ya I got several heat sinks that I put on the back of the monitor to ensure the heat gets dissipated.

Ya, it will be a thick one… mounted Rpi 3 with cpu fan, thats about 12x12x10cms… i will make it such a way that air blows on the Rpi 3 and then same air goes through all the ac/dc adaptors and then to the monitor, finally an exit for it… inbetween i will have heat sinks, aluminium fills/nets to keep the air cool… I have rip opened all the different adaptors from its case and using the circuits from it, changed how the wires will go, etc… i have a “L” shaped wooden structure/design in mind…

I am doing it this much because i wish to run magic mirror all round the clock with Google assistant…

Hi all… I am building magic mirror and i am using cooling fans from computer cpu to circulate air, keep it cool… Powered it with a 12v adaptor, another 5v fan powered by mobile phone charger, etc… So i have multiple ad/dc Power adaptors, for Rpi, fan, another fan etc… Search amazon for different types of fans… Also the heatsink from computer is useful… Or get something like a net made of aluminium…

I grabbed an ACER KA270H Abix - because it’s thin and has very little face plastic - so I don’t have to take it apart to use it. Ended up taking it apart anyway to see if the name badge bar is removable to make no face plastic, and it is… Pulled it off, black taped over the metal piece it hid, and have the button bar ready to move to an edge.

… does it have inbuilt speakers? I guess “abix” means without speakers… i am not sure…

Thanks for your inputs, friends… I will go to shops and find a monitor to buy hand to hand, on the internet i am just selecting which to buy, least i prefer to buy online, but doable…

Thickness wont be a problem i guess because i have already thought to make a thick frame, i have mounted cooling fans from my PC on my Rpi3B+ so its around 12x12x15cm… Will post pics once its fully built. Also the AC/DC adapters for fan will occupy space!
