  • RE: PIR sensor behind glass?

@yo-less said in PIR sensor behind glass?:

@cowboysdude We might just drill a tiny hole into the frame of the mirror and put the PIR behind it without its Fresnel cover. Will experiment with that idea some more.

That’s the approach I was thinking of. Which PIR will you use?

@gshimself said in Himself's first Mirror:

@yawns The reason for the red text is that my HDMI->VGA converter is bad and made the whole screen green, So I removed all green colour from the RGB settings and therefore the red texture… x) I am going to buy a better converter. :)

sssh, try selling your “bug” as a feature :)

  • RE: my raspberry pi 3 has a os installed but

So you bought your Raspberry with a preinstalled sd card, right?

    • ListenpunktIs your raspberry connected to the internet automatically?

    • ListenpunktDid you perform an update of your system afterwards? Please look at this instruction: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/raspbian/updating.md

I installed the raspbian os manually (downloaded the latest Jessi image, flashed it to the sd card and performed the update described above. If I remember correctly I had some trouble with date/time before the updates, after the update everything is fine.

Interesting, looks very slim. I am not sure if I like the orange/pink color or not :)

  • RE: Complete noob here

So you downloaded the MagicMirror with the curl command, right?
Open the file manager and navigate the folder MagicMirror in your home directory. There is a subfolder named config. Inside you find a file config.js.sample
Copy this file and name it config.js
Once this is done your mirror is ready to start.
Open the terminal shell, navigate to the magic mirror folder with “cd MagicMirror” + enter. After that enter “npm start” + enter.
You should see the mirrors interface.

Now play around with your config file. To get started you should open a webbrowser and register an account at openweathermap.org to get your own app id. Copy this app id to your config file and set the location to your location. Test this location on openweathermap.org first.

Then take a look at the modules in this forum to see if something interests you. Every module developer added an instruction how to install and use the module

  • RE: Introduce yourself!

    Hi everyone,

my name is Stefan, I’m 34, married, living in Germany (near cologne). I always enjoyed developing Software so I completed a 2 years education and ended as a software engineer in a small company designing websites and backend for tourist related topics. I noticed I did but like doing that for the rest of my life so I was looking for alternatives. Now I am working as a senior IT analyst in a TV production company.

Over the last years I spent my free time rebuilding my car, swapping the engine, adding aircondition, changing the drive train, removing rust and getting a fresh paint in the original colour. This project was finished last year, just in time for marriage.
I always liked building things, working with wood and glue and electronics, I can’t do “nothing” and I wanted to play around with a raspberry for a long time, so I recently bought one with some sensors and stuff.
We just bought a house which is about to be built so I plan to create a smart mirror on a central place in the house, get the wiring done to avoid cables hanging around.
In addition 4 months ago we rescued a small pitbull called Chico from the shelter and are now doing our best to educate this little boy.

    Best regards, Stefan
