Which Alexa module is better, Awesome Alexa or Mirror Mirror on the Wall
-
Hey guys how are you …
I would really appreciate if you help me with this please …
i wanna know which Alexa module is better without buying the real Amazon Alexa device …
I tried Awesome Alexa first … after i installed it and all … after i finished i tried it … and said: Alexa hide all (to hide the modules… for privacy and save power) it hided all the modules but then i wanted to say: Alexa show modules (to show them again) but it didn’t respond to me … i had to restart the magic mirror … so what should i do after i hide the modules how can i show them again without restarting the magic mirror ? And how can i make Alexa hide particular modules but not all of them and how to make a custom responds (for example when i say: Alexa do you love me? And she responds to me with: yes my love)And about Mirror Mirror on the Wall module … i tried it also … i liked it because in the forum they say that i can hide particular modules and keep the rest or hide everything and show them … i even liked that for example i don’t wanna say show all … i wanna say release all (for privacy so no one says show all and they see my phone notifications if my ex texted me 🌚 or my calendar if i have a date with some chicks) … so anyway … i downloaded it and all but when i wanted to test it … i kept calling her by: mirror mirror on the wall … or alexa, start magic mirror … or just alexa … i even tried to call her mirror mirror … she didn’t respond to any of those … so i have no idea how to make Alexa module works without buying the actual Alexa Amazon device … can anyone help me please ? And if there is a better module with the specifications i said above …
Thank you all … -
@cq0q both modules are very old, and haven’t been maintained (MMotW since 4 years ago, and AA since 2+ years)… their authors are not active here
they are both built on technology that has changed
-
@sdetweil mine maybe…
-
@bugsounet i have not seen announcement of yours… only future possibility
-
@sdetweil so what should i do ? Like just stop from building magic mirror and leave it or what ?
Please i need a solution … -
@cq0q if @bugounet has a solution, you should try that… otherwise all the other Alexa modules are broken.
-
@sdetweil You know that i don’t ads any release there :)
-
@bugsounet well, you just did for GA… … SO… i don’t follow your forums… i have enough to do
-
@sdetweil not released … just under-coding :)
-
@bugsounet when do you think you’re gonna release it ?
-
@cq0q he has moved support and communications for his modules to his own forum space
-
@sdetweil so you’re saying i’m not gonna be able to use any of alexa modules ??
-
@cq0q what I said was, of the alexa modules for MagicMirror that WERE published, none of them are working completely… and no one has elected to take over the modules (this is all volunteer )
@bugsounet says he has one for MagicMirror, but I haven’t seen it.
I have developed one for a different platform, but it also doesn’t support interacting with the local system.
as the current Amazon api is all in audio files, not text. -
@cq0q I tried a few of the Alexa modules and unfortunally none really worked. Finally I found MMM-AlexaControl.
I took a spare Echo Dot I had laying around, mounted it on the back of my mirror and plugged it into the USB port of the RPi for power supply. That is the easiest way to go:
- Simple module setup and configuration
- no hassle with microphones and speakers
- Setup scenes and similar in the Alexa app to e.g. switch pages on the mirror
- done.
-
@fozi I also use Alexa control. I added the naming capability a year or so ago, as I have 5 different mirrors to control.
easy. alexa turns off my lights at bedtime, and dims all the mirrors
-
@sdetweil how you did that ? And can i do on for example Google Assistant module ?
-
@cq0q did what? use alexaControl?
u can attach notifications when the power on or off request comes from Alexa.
Alexa control makes virtual WeMo outlets.
don’t think it can be done for GH devices. they demand account linkage, but no account for these virtual devices.
very cool implementation
it uses real Amazon echo device
-
@sdetweil
Is AlexaControl still working? -
Put an Alexa dot behind your mirror…so much less headache!
-
@DDE12 yes… with some echo devices
