@beth check your router to see if the system has a reserved address

u can find its address with
ifconfig command in a terminal window

      ethxx is ethernet wired
      wlanxx is wireless lan

UPDATE: there is a command window that papers on the boot up screen it does not leave i connected keyboard/mouse to it and can enter commands like a terminal window although pm2start will not work and npm start gives the following err (note i copied this by hand so there may be slight imperfections)

          npm ERR! code ENOENT
          npm ERR! sysca11 open
npm ERR! path /home/pi/package . json
          npm ERR! errno -2
npm ERR! enoent no such file or directory, open ‘/home/pi/package . jason’
npm ERR! enoent This is related to npm not being able to find a file.

            /home/pi/

u are not in the MagicMirror folder for npm start

and its pm2 start (notice the space)

pm2 status will show u the pm2 currently managed apps

              [PM2] spawning PM2 daemon with pm2 _home=/home/pi.pm2
              [PM2] PM2 successfully daemonized
[PM2] [ERROR] Script not found: /home/pi/MagicMirror/mm.sh

                : /home/pi/MagicMirror/mm.sh

ok, you used some old instructions, cause the file was moved to the installers folder a long time ago…

                pm2 status
                pm2 delete xx
where xx is the number of the line in the status (usually 0)
or the name in the line

                pm2 save

then use my script to fixup pm2
                see https://github.com/sdetweil/MagicMirror_scripts

the last command listed, fixuppm2.sh is the one u want to copy/paste to your terminal window

                    it says

fixuppm2.sh, cut/paste this line into the terminal window on your device
