      Fun Moon Fact
We all know there was a man on the moon, but did you know that there is one who stayed there? Dr. Eugene Shoemaker, a Geological Surveyor, who educated the Apollo mission astronauts about craters, never made it into space himself, but it had always been one of his dreams. He was rejected as an astronaut because of medical problems. After he died, his ashes were placed on board the Lunar Prospector spacecraft on January 6, 1999, which was crashed into a crater on the moon on July 31, 1999. The mission was to discover if there was water on the moon at the time, but it also served to fulfill Dr Shoemaker’s last wish.

Well, not really. I don’t think I was clear enough. Yes, these links are to websites that contain pictures of the moon but not directly to the pictures. I did dig into the first site and isolated the url to today’s moon phase picture. Try it.

              http://lunaf.com/img/moon/phase-13.png

Tomorrow that url will change, as will the image name.

The API url that is currently being used is static. It never changes. Only the image updates, not the url itself.

So, that’s what we need. A url to a current image of the moon (not a website containing moon pictures) and it has to update just the image. I’ll look when I can. You can still look. :-)

                        I have several. ;-)

I threw together a companion module to MMM-MARS using one of the API’s from your link. For everyone that needs to know the weather on Mars. (Me). I don’t know how reliable the data is going to be but I learned how to make an array (in the node_helper) and push it to the the module.js. I needed to do that in order to rotate the data. So, the simplest of modules but very rewarding because I learned something new.

                        https://github.com/mykle1/MMM-MARS-Weather

                        0_1542903138783_33.png

It’s only the very last line that rotates through 8 objects of data. SolDate, season, min and max air temp, atmospheric conditions (Sunny), min and max ground temp, sunrise and sunset at the rover’s locaton. A little css put it right under MARS

Your wait should be over. MMM-Lunartic just reported a full moon accurately and played the howling wolf sound file as expected.

I forgot I added that and was surprised when the audio played. Fun and pretty cool!

                            Dear @Mykle1,
since yesterday, I do not get the current picture of the moon anymore, although I did not touch the MMM-Lunartic config. If I do, I can display other info - but not the current image.

I completely removed and reinstalled the module - but that did not solve the problem. I can open the direct link to the current NASA picture from the .js file - so it does not seem, that my IP is blocked from their side.

Do you have any idea, how to get the current picture of the moon back?

                              Hi,

Yes, I am aware of this problem and am working to correct it. I asked for help in a topic. Hopefully someone will give me some input on fixing it. Otherwise, it will be some time before I can get that working again. In the meantime, don’t use “current or DayNight” as your image in the config entry

This is what I’m up against at the moment. Try contacting the US Navy and telling them their API for moon images is not configured properly. This should be fun.

@mykle1 I also had to set an “exception”, as the HTTPS Certificate does not match. Maybe there is an option to ignore this threat.

Yeah, I’m going to avoid using an exception, even if I knew how to do that. As you know, (you messaged me) the API started working again and then was gone again for a short period of time. This is encouraging. I think it means they are working on fixing the API. I’m working on a temporary fix but it will take some time. Lets hope they fix the API before I finish the fix.

That’s fantastic. However, there is a problem with the API for the images so the module is having trouble at the moment. I’m looking at some options and @rudibarani has been assisting but I’m still hoping they correct the issue soon.
