Considering taking donations to support the MagicMirror project. Interested in your thoughts!

You should make the forum have ads if the person is not logged in. That should generate some income.
Also a voluntary donation is easy to setup and I really enjoyed the project so far and would be willing to give a donation as I think most would.
Another option would be have paid plugins. For example I have been bashing my head trying to get the analytics plugin to work. I would be willing to pay for it.
Good luck and I hope everything works out for you.

@savona
Donations a for keep going forum, not for resolving issues with modules. -
MM has been the most fun and at the same time useful project I’ve ever been involved with. I will definitely donate! And I wouldn’t have learned node.js and extended my Linux knowledge if it wasn’t for MM, which is worth a lot. Great work @MichMich!
I think single donations is the way to go (or at least the option for single donations). I think people are more hesitant to sign up for monthly/yearly donations.

@MichMich We’re currently working on a project featuring MagicMirror and would be very interested in supporting. Would you mind sending us private message so we can reach out? Would love to share more details.
-
Willing to donate for this awesome project and work done by MichMich. Prefer PayPal for donations.
-
@michmich I would donate for sure. Surprised that there is not an option already.
-
+1
and could you give us some advice how much you need, for example : if 10% of the forum user gives 10€ each year it’s covers the forum server expenses, or if 10% of MM users gives 5€ each month you could work full time on it, …
-
I would definitely support one-time donations via PayPal and a monthly tiered Patreon. As someone mentioned before I like the idea of a Patreon tier that would be able to vote on what modules and features are added next. Personally I would support a monthly Patreon.
I would also not be opposed to a marketplace where developers could make money from their modules and support the modules that they create. Similar to what WordPress has done with plugins and themes.

I would also agree to support thru PayPal. Great stuff man. Thanks for making this community very healthy and supportive.
-
I am willing to donate as long as it remains voluntary.
paypal is prefered as payment method. -
@mykle1 I’m with you, but I’ll add PayPal as a way to donate.
-

(Sorry, too tempting…)
I’d definitely donate. I love this whole project.

Hi Everybody,
Thanks for all your suggestions! I’ve added a donate link (using Paypal) to the homepage, the forum menubar and the readme of the project (currently dev branch only). If you have any suggestions where I can add more donate buttons without being annoying, feel free to let me know.
If you want to go to the donation-page directly, please follow this link.
To all of you that are going to donate: many many many thanks in advance!
-
The link sends you to a paypal site with dutch language,
Not a big deal, but should be English as default :)
Edit : And also, Donated ofc!
-
@broberg First of all: thanks for the donation! I really appreciate it!
Your link doesn’t seem to work since it includes your (expired) session token. I checked the donate button config, and it should display an English form. I tried changing the locale but it doesn’t seem to work.
This is the official sharable link:
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=G5D8E9MR5DTD2&source=urlAdding the locale doesn’t seem to work:
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=G5D8E9MR5DTD2&source=url&country.x=NL&locale.x=nl_ENAny suggestions?

I like the idea of adding some sort of recognition system. This can be a nice perk for those who contribute.
Has this been implemented?
-
@mykle1 Yes, I’ve created a group to which I will I eventually add all the sponsors.
-
What if we try this link?
