@speirsoj01 thanks. I hadn’t thought about it before but seeing your mirror against a standard one is interesting. I’m guessing that’s light escaping from the back. I’m not an expert but it may not be possible to get it any brighter without losing the contrast of the writing? Size wise that looks like it’s going to be a great mirror, same sort of size as I want to do my next one. Are you custom building a frame?

@Atheose thats exactly what i did. the problem is that the part where the monitor is is actually too bright, so it’d probably be better to put some white or light gray paper behind the parts that are not covered by monitor. But it’s not too bad and I don’t want to get the mirror off the wall and disassemble the whole thing again…

I have the following equipment with me a 12 x 12 inch two way mirror (Vanity vision, 1/4inch thick) a 13.1 x 8.2 inch screen What’s the best way of going about this? I have a glass cutting tool and I am thinking of cutting the mirror down to 12 x 8.2 inches. But when it comes to the frame, I would need something that would fit a 13.1 by 8.2 inch screen. I don’t have access to too many hardware tools so making a custom frame is going to be difficult if I want to fit the 13.1x8.2inch screen. For those who made pretty looking frameless mirrors, how did you guys do it? Or basically how did you make it mountable on a wall? The other option would be for me to get a 12x12inch shadow box that can fit the mirror easily, and buy a smaller screen like this https://www.amazon.com/JBtek-Resolution-Raspberry-EJ101IA-01G-Rasbperry/dp/B00S4EWF6G/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 which is a 9 x 5.8 inch screen and I can fit everything inside the box.

@Atheose thanks for the information im going out in a few to go pick it up the film as i figure its only 30$ worth a try worse case ill buy a sheet of glass and place thar on top or just bit the bullet and by the Acrylic mirror… ill update when i have it on

@ZombieDE IMHO, no it’s not worth it. Unless you’re planning on using your Pi through the mirror for surfing, video or the like. But if you’re planning on going with the normal black and white theme for the mirror, it’s not worth the extra color fidelity. I’ve found that with a little fiddling of the monitor settings (contrast max, brightness 40%, etc.) you can remove any background bleed from the LED backlight.

@fox It’s possible. If you configure your Pi to turn off the signal to the HDMI port, the monitor should shut off automatically. It should remain off until it detects a signal again, whereupon it will turn itself back on. The MotionDetection module can do this for you with a Raspberry Pi camera. Otherwise, there is a module for using a PIR sensor.

Any update?My plan was to use the same smart mirror as you. Were you able to fix the problem?What screen did you use?

@impuislupus I called a local supplier and got a quote for a 24" x 60" piece yesterday. 250 USD for mirropane, haven’t found someone who will sell mirroview to a non-business.

I bought a used 32" tv which will be my mirror. Basically I just tried different display sizes (19", 21" wide, 24", 27", 32", 46") with my MagicMirror to determine if it has enough free space to still act as a mirror but to display relevant data.

Hi there, thats the post i followed, and have followed twice. The code is saving in the files I.e. the step below all saves and stays in the auto start config but doesnt do anything I’m either missing something glaringly obvious … Step 3 Let’s disable the screen saver and screen blanking as well. This needs to be done in two places. First in the autostart configuration: ‘sudo nano /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart’ And add the following to the bottom of the file: @xset s noblank @xset s off @xset -dpms

@broberg thanks! well that looks pretty good for 3%. My supplier has a 8% mirror and I didn’t think it would be enough but perhaps I should give it a try :)

Hi again guys… :p Right i’m a total noob with absolutely no experience in programming or writing code… I have installed programs simply by clicking an install.exe and following on screen commands but that’s about as far as my level of experience goes! haha So far i’m really chuffed with myself as I appear to have all the basic modules calibrated correctly? Time: local Weather: local News: BBC News Calendar: Personal gmail Compliments: edited text file to include the odd profanity in order to motivate my lazy ass! So far so good… All working and looking great! I look more into the compliments area and see you can customise compliments to relate to weather… Awesome! Tried adding it myself, failed. Has anyone got a copy and paste of the compliments.txt with weather related compliments working I can use as a template? Many thanks!!
