@Jopyth said in Further module categories...:

I think Utilities is the category that needs “refurbishing” the most. It is basically the category all modules go in, which have no other fitting category and we probably need one like it, but maybe we can try to split it up.

      Totally agree!

      possible categories

      • Smart Home
      • Sensors* (GPIO integrations)
      • Voice Recognition
      • Configuration

Not sure what about the configuration category (I guess you intend sharing configurations?), but I support the other suggestions.

My suggestion is putting in for instance under each Topic and separate each module into subcategories…

The reason I say that is because when I was posting modules I had a difficult time trying to figure out where to put a couple of them… not sure where they fit.

A great example is Utilities… looks like modules where dumped there because people couldn’t figure out where to put them.

You have Voice control, thermostat control, network scanner, etc…

Voice control is a mirror util
        Thermostat is a home util
Network scanner is a mirror util…

        Things like that :)

@yawns Actually I was talking about modules for configuration purposes (Mobile App, Admin Interface, …), but maybe they should just belong to the general System category.

Sorry @Jopyth I was thinking of further defining categories…

@cowboysdude So you would go with sub-categories, rather than defining new base categories? It not completely clear to me though, which categories you would split, and which subcategories you suggest? Or do you just want example below the categories, so it is easier to see where a module should go?

Also, maybe the future should go more into the direction of @MichMich’s module beta for showcasing modules.
