Great! And is there any step by step guide for noobs like me?

Follow the Manual Installation instructions on this page: About half way down the page:
      https://github.com/MichMich/MagicMirror

It worked for me. I installed uBuntu on a laptop and then installed MagicMirror using those directions.

Hi @Mykle1 Thanks for the answer.
I’ve started following the instructions, but I get the following error:

        0_1490032831021_upload-627b7d7b-12f7-443e-b447-8750893adc5b

        Any idea why?

This is just a guess but I think I remember hearing that MagicMirror has to be installed in your Home directory. I see that you installed it in /home/christain/.
You can try the process again (if you want to) but install MagicMirror as soon as you open a new terminal. Don’t change directories.

          I hope this helps

Ok, someone will help you at some point. I don’t know if it matters but I’m running uBuntu 16.04 LTS, not as a VM

@Mykle1 Did you get this to work on your device running Ubuntu 16.04? I am trying this on an old tablet running Ubuntu Mate 16.04.

I have the same kind of issue on ubuntu 18.04, did someone fix it? When someone says that it doesn’t run out of the box, what does this means?

Did you install “npm” and “node” as this sometimes isnt installed at ubuntu by default?

@axled yes I did but nothing changed. Do you have to make it work on a virtual machine? How to enable it on Ubuntu?

Why are you using sudo npm start? You shouldn’t use sudo to install MM or run MM. That can lead to problems. Also, it shouldn’t matter but for the sake of conformity I always install MM in the home directory

                                    doesn’t matter if i’m in Ubuntu 16.04 OR 18.04
and it doesn’t matter if I’m in home directory OR the root directory…

is there a different way to run MM other than ‘npm start’?

did you try to start the “Server only” mode an open a browser on Ubuntu with IP of your MM?
To start Server only do node serveronly in your MagicMirror directory.

Maybe this helps to find the problem.

                                            Hello everyone,

                                            3months later, I hope it’s not too late :)

@AxLed i’m trying to use “node serveronly” but have this error :
WARNING! Could not validate config file. Please correct syntax errors. Starting with default configuration.

I followed @Mykle1 tutorial to create default config.js but this not works.

Any idea ? (My internet connection works)

                                            Thanks.
