      Hi, I’ve tried several options:

      • Motion detector in the mounting arm of the lamp
      • Radar sensor behind the glass
      • Radar sensor inside near the frame
      • Radar sensor outside on the lower frame

Actually, only the latter works well. And that’s how it’s stayed now. The foil of the mirror shields just about everything. Actually the motion detector in the lamp arm should do the job. But apparently it is also shielded by the aluminium so that it didn’t work.

So not yet an optimal solution …

      Regards
      Josef

@otto I put a microwave sensor behind the Glas and it works reliably. You can find my tutorial if you follow the link in my signature.

          Hallo Josef,

how happy are you with the chrome spy mirror glas? is the reflected image brigth enough or is it too dark to operate as the main bathroom mirror? Any comments from the wife?;) I’m about to order the same from glas star.

          Beste Grüsse,
          Mat

            Hi, Mat,

my wife and I are very happy with our mirror and we would both not want to miss it anymore. The mirror is a little darker than a normal mirror. But it is perfectly adequate as a bathroom mirror. My wife has never complained about the (missing) brightness. And I myself am also very satisfied.
But before I bought the mirror, I had built a “sample mirror” for my wife from the sample glasses that you can get from the supplier. At that time the direct comparison was possible and the conversion was officially “approved”. :-)

            Grüße
            Sepp

Impressive work. How many cans of silicone did you use?

                  Hi @evgeniy88,
I probably needed a lot less than half a can. The relief of the milling helps to save material and still guarantee stability.

Soon I will start building a bathroom mirror cabinet with a magic mirror. I will post the details in this forum again. :-)

Thanks for your posts. At first I was skeptical about the idea of gluing a mirror on silicone, but now I want to use your design.

                        Hi,
Thank you for all this info.
I am at the very start of my magic mirror journey and came across you mirror which is simply fantastic.
I noticed you had metal LED buttons on the side of your frame which I would like to install one in mine for powering opn/off.
Having looked at button tutorials I see most are just 2 jumper wires to the GIPO is this the same for your buttons?
                        How is the LED powered?

                        thanks!
                        Vicki

                          Hi,
please forgive the late reply. It slipped through.

                          I use these buttons: https://smile.amazon.de/gp/product/B00JSEX1A0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

These have separate connections for “nomaly closed” NC and “normaly open” NO. And there are also the connections for the button LED.

But I did not connect the LEDs. Otherwise, besides the LED of the toothbrush and the LED of the mouthwash and the LED of the razor and … another LED would burn. Then I could slowly save the ceiling lighting in the bathroom :-)

                          Regards
                          Josef

Looks very impressive. Which source do you use for the wooden frame?

                              Hi @PeterKatana,
What do you mean by source?
The frame is made of beech wood. You can buy it from a wood dealer or carpenter. I have taken solid wood shelf savior made of beech from the hardware store. These are glued rod-wise and therefore torsion-resistant.

                                Hi Josef,
thanks for the recommendation. I will search here for a carpenter. A miter saw I should have. Before I lived in Aschheim, that was easier. Now I am jobwise in Göppingen. Will search around.
I am curious for your next project you announced.

Your mirror looks amazing, but I am wondering. How is the electronics holding up, being put in a bathroom with alot of moisture? I cant see you did anything extra to keep moisture out of the mirror?

                                      Hi @SuneRadich ,
all electrical connections are clamped together in junction boxes for damp locations. The Raspberry Pi is also in such a box. Only the connections of the screen are in their original box, which in my view is not specially protected against moisture.
So far, there have been no problems and even if you remove the mirror, you won’t see anything scorched or similar damage.
                                      Regards
