      Dear MagicMirror Community,

As we step into 2024, MagicMirror marks a significant milestone - a decade of innovation, collaboration, and growth. Ten years ago, I embarked on an incredible journey with the inception of the MagicMirror project on GitHub. It has been an honor and a privilege to witness this project evolve, driven by the passion and dedication of a vibrant and creative community.

However, life is an ever-changing tapestry, and with new priorities and paths unfolding for me, the time has come to make a pivotal decision. Recognizing that my ability to invest the energy and attention MagicMirror deserves is diminishing, I have decided that it is in the best interest of the project to transition its stewardship to those who can carry its legacy forward with renewed vigor and vision.

Today, I am announcing the transfer of the MagicMirror repository to a new GitHub organization. This move is not an end, but rather a new beginning - a step towards transforming MagicMirror into a fully community-led project. It is my firm belief that this transition will open new avenues for innovation and growth, ensuring that MagicMirror continues to thrive and adapt in the ever-evolving tech landscape.

I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has contributed to MagicMirror over the past decade. Your contributions, big and small, have been the lifeblood of this project, and I am deeply thankful for your support and enthusiasm.

As we move forward, I want to assure you that this transition will be smooth and thoughtful. The repository’s shift to a new organization is just the first step in this transformation. In the future, we may also transition other components of the project, such as the website, forum, and servers, to ensure that MagicMirror continues to be supported and nurtured by its community.

I am excited to see where you, the community, will take MagicMirror next. Here’s to a future filled with innovation, collaboration, and success.

Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey.

      Warm regards,

      Michael Teeuw

@MichMich I only found out about MagicMirror two months ago, and in that time I have setup four MagicMirrors in frames (I got prefab’ed), two MagicMirrors in Dockers, and one running on our main TV. One of them is going in our RV, with GPS, that will automatically update weather, weather warnings, tell you where you are at, and turn on and off the frame at sunset/sunrise, at your current location. I have one with my elderly father, where we, can send pictures to the frame, and it can show him the weather. Playing with MM forced me to do my first pull request on Github to fix someones module. lol

I just want to thank you on your work on MagicMirror and how much pleasure it has brought to our family.

              Dear Michael,
thank you very much for creating this project and leading it to its great success over the last decade.
I still remember setting up my first try on a Magic Mirror over night while my wife was working a night shift years ago and working more than a hundred hours on an LED module with my good friend @Viatoris, just because it was fun and we wanted to give something back to this awesome community. Now that my wife and I built a house, I even have a special place on the wall for my upcoming mirror in the living room (with sockets and LAN connections behind it).
I‘m sure, this community is able to take the lead and will keep your great work up. All the best for you and your family!

                      Dear Michael,
I stumbled across the magic mirror in 2020, and my MM projects helped me to get through Covid-19. Our “main magic mirror” has become the central information point in the hallway, and all family members are happy to have a piece of jewellery like this.
I can only repeat what has already been said here: thank you very much for having realized your idea, thank you very much for making it known to the world and for sharing it with the world, thank you very much for your devotion and commitment to this project and all the support for everyone of us here.

Happy New Year and all the best for you and your family on your further journey!

May the code be with you

Michael, thank you for taking a wild idea and creating this wonderful community around it. I really appreciate all of the work you did to get this project where it is today. It has inspired me to stretch myself in several directions that I probably would not have gone if it weren’t for the potential of the magic mirrors.

We wouldn’t be here without you.

@MichMich Thanks so much for this project. I was looking for a perpetual electronic calendar… probably 5+ years ago. I can across your personal MM2 and hobby page, bookmarked it, and just about forgot about it.

Then during COVID I came across the bookmark and decided to do it as a project. It’s been very rewarding to learn about some of the stuff that is possible with this platform. I even took a series of Javascript, CSS, and HTML classes on Coursera and Udemy.

                                  Michael,

I truly appreciate the work you’ve done, thank you.

Looking back at my archives, the first modification I made to your original code was on March 28th of 2015 (that version still had the code that talked to your washing machine)! How has it been that long?!?!

That first mirror, that is still proudly in our home, is a 40" TV behind mirror glass and we just replaced the TV a couple of months ago, although can’t complain because it was turned on 24 hours a day for 10 years!

I’m still using that original code and still make tweaks now and again. but have sent a lot of people to this “new” version so they can build their own.

                                  Once again, thank you!!

Thanks for your inspiration over the years! I’ve always enjoyed following the progress on the project, and the random tweet about Dutch Television shows.

You inspired me to start creating Teletron, I even included a Magic Mirror Module compatibility layer.

Wish you all the best on your own paths, and may they be filled with innovation, collaboration, and success.

even though I’ve only been exposed to your project in the last year I thank you for all you’ve done. IF I’ve spent hours/days/weeks on my mirror I can only imagine what you’ve gone through. Again, thank you.

Thank you Michael for all of the work you have put into this project over the years. I came across it courtesy of the MagPi article (which I’m sure is how many people first encountered the project). Since first reading about it, I’ve built more mirrors than I care to remember, both for personal use, and for friends/family as well.

As an aside, it also introduced me to Git, which has resulted in me finally learning to code (more than 3 decades after I skipped all those classes at University :)

Enjoy whatever your future holds, and thank you once again.

Hello everyone!! Super excited about this open-source community! My Parents M-82, and F-79… They are having a hard time keeping their paper calendar organized, Dementia is kicking in… They are forgetting to update their calendar and even forgetting to write down doctor visits I made for them, I was considering DAKboard but, when I came across MagicMirror, I told my 15 y/o son (Who understands coding and Raspberry pi) let’s make them a mirror-calendar-interactive-syncable with everyone’s calendar-touchscreen, and a section for photos sent from us 2 hours away. And I can update their calendar from home. I’m super excited for my son and me on this project. We want to have a touch screen. Calendar interaction. weekly to-do’s and a random photo display. Any help is appreciated… Skills. I love woodworking, I’m computer savvy, and I like to build stuff. My Son is handy with computer repairs - I taught him, soldering, and thank god coding. Both he and I are self-taught through YouTube!!! LOL. Looking to build something in the 24 -27".
