    @gismo2006 Hey, honestly if it wasn’t for the fact that you mentioned changing tvservice to vcgencmd I’d never have figured it out! Your brief commend put me on the right path to getting everything working, thank so you much!! If I run into any problems with vcgencmd in the future I’ll be sure to pm you :)

    Ahhhh so it is only possible for the start post and you have to write them (not chose them). But it can easily be missed and that’s too bad. I have now added tags to my first post. I think tags is a great way to get to solutions or points of interest righter fast.

    @efk4 Glad you got it working. I’m thinking something didn’t take when you installed it the first time :)

    I’m planning on making my sister a magic mirror as a house warming gift, and have been watching videos and reading through the forums to get an understanding of what’s involved. I was hoping give it touch screen but that seemed out of my budget. Then I realized I could use a small touch screen for simple stuff like volume, a keyboard, or to pause and play video, and use a 20" monitor for the main display. Is this something that has been done before? If so point me in that direction. If not, how hard would it be to do? I have no previous experience with Magic Mirror, Linux. or RPI. So if there is anything out there that is relatively simple, or even better, in a completed state, then awesome. If not, then I’ll go sans touch screen for the time being, until I get a better grasp of this whole process. Thanks in advance,

    You are welcome. I guess you will need to find out on your own if the laptop fullfills your requirements. Power consumption is one aspect, another is loudness and heat due to fans in your laptop.

    @bez252 Actually what they describe might also work for you, based on a quick glance through the setup code. To shutdown from the node_helper you need to change some code in the file(will be in MMM-Button/node_helper.js in your file system). Here is an example from my module to shut down the RPi, you can replace the self.sendSocketNotification(...) in the node_helper with a similar command: exec('sudo shutdown -h now', null); Also, at the beginning of the file you need to include the exec function, like here: const exec = require('child_process').exec;

    @Novocain That looks to be a great summary The one I got was an universal one, but it was just five bucks, so never mind… I simply didn’t research much before I bought it
