  • MagicMirror at Maker Faire Berlin

    Hi guys,
Always make sure you save your 2-factor backup codes in a secure location! Got a new phone, forgot about my keys and therefore locked myself out of the forum a few months ago…

Finally found the time to dig into the database and disable 2-factor for my account

Anyway! I will be at the Maker Faire in Berlin this weekend so if you are still looking for something to do and are somewhere in the area, make sure to say hello!

You can use the coupon code NLJRZC to get some cheaper tickets on their website.

  • 1.1k members and a short update regarding myself

    Hi there! :)

I just saw we now have 1.1k members, which is absolutely incredible! I think neither of us (@MichMich) could have imagined that when we decided to open this website as a place for creative people to meet, discuss and share their ideas for the future.

You have probable noticed I am not really active on the forum right now, since we`ve gotten so many new members most probably won’t even know me anymore :D In case any of you missed me, here is a short status update:

As you guys may know I moved to Berlin recently which is exactly at the other side of Germany from where I used to live until now. This of course takes some getting used to since I left most of my friends and my family (except my girlfriend) behind. I also started an apprenticeship as a media designer for image and sound at a film tech rental. I skipped the first year and because of that I have to catch up on quite some school stuff… Those are basically the reasons I am a bit absent on here but I am definitely planing on coming back and also work on my modules again, tough I am not sure yet when I will fully have the time and motivation for doing that again :)

  • RE: Facial Recognition - customize your mirror for every user!

@sunnysys Somewhere in the code is a hardcoded setting of the resolution that is captured (I will add an option for that someday but I am busy with school right now). If you set this to an higher resolution you will not have to stand as close but it will require more processing power :)
Please also note that you should take the pics in a similar lightning environment as your mirror will be!

  • WE WANT YOU! [New Moderators]

    Hi guys,

We are looking for some new moderators to help us maintain this forum!
There are currently 2.4 thousand registered users on this site, our moderator team on the other hand only consist out of 3 people (@MichMich, @KirAsh4 and myself). All of us have jobs and other side projects going on, so it has become impossible for us to do this all alone and that’s where we are asking you guys for help! :)

    The moderator job:

    • Adding Markdown code highlighting to posts which don’t yet use it, as well as a note instructing the post author to do so themselves next time
    • Making sure new topics are in the right category
    • Splitting up topics if new questions get posted that have nothing to do with the original topic
    • Improving topic titles to clearly and on point state what the topic is about
    • Cleaning up the Showcase category: People needing help / having problems should be splittet into a new post in the troubleshooting category
    • Deleting spam messages and blocking spamming users
    • Watching over the community and making sure everyone plays nice with all the others
    • Trying to help in general
    • New stuff you come up with, you are part of our team so feel free to suggest your wishes

    Requirements for the job:

    • You should know the MagicMirror framework well. Ideally but not mandatory, you have already committed some changes to the core project
    • You enjoy and have fun helping other people
    • You should be fluent in English

If you are interested, write a short text why you’d love to be a moderator, as well as telling us a bit about yourself and post it in this topic!

We are looking forward to hear from you guys! :)

  • RE: Increase in spam bots

Reason is probably that I disabled Akismet.com because it had too many false positives :/
I just switched to reCAPTCHA maybe that will help a bit :)

Try playing with the threshold. I’ve only used the module with the official pi cam and on my Mac so I cannot guarantee other cameras are working correctly.
