@strawberry-3-141
I added MMM-Soccer to the laptop. Very nice! Voice working!
I also added several sports newsfeeds to keep the sports theme of the machine.
My son-in-law is going to love this

Yes, thank you
@cowboysdude And thank you too for sending it to me in pm.
Hanging my head in senile shame
In less than 48 hours I discovered, used with great joy, then forgot the config entry that skips the loading of a module. I’ve searched for it but cannot find it. I found it here but can’t remember where.
please refresh my memory

Anyhow. Try the new version!
I’ll get it right now. Thanks for dealing with this for me.
Did the git pull
I changed my test to the 7th as a 3 day test. I didn’t want to wait till the 15th to see if it was working correctly. It’s reporting 3 Days Left so that’s an improvement right away. I’ll check it in the morning. Thanks again
@broberg said in MMM-doomsDay - The countdown module,:
And thank you for all the beta testing!
I know I said I would try not to bother you anymore with this but . . .
I set doomsDay: "2017-03-15 24:00:00", which is the Ides of March, just as a test. I keep testing because I really want this module to work for me. Well, as of 8:50am today, 2017-03-04. the module is reporting 12 More Days instead of 11. The last test didn’t update the Days Left until late morning, early afternoon. I wouldn’t mind if it was slow in updating by an hour or two but it’s no good to me if it’s 12 hours behind
Sorry

it’s not using any region for that it basically centers on your screen checkout the css class modal https://github.com/fewieden/MMM-NFL/blob/master/MMM-NFL.css#L51-L60 which can be overwritten in the custom.css
Ok, thank you. Will do.
I’m also going to install MMM-Soccer.
@strawberry-3.141 said in MMM-NFL:
you can only show one top 5 once, but you can switch between them without needing to close the other one first
Yes, I had already discovered that by trying, and I’m happy about that.
Ok, next question. Is there a way to have the statistics window open in another region other than middle_center?

Fantastic!
And as of this very moment, I can confirm that an old Compaq Presario CQ57 laptop, with a fresh install of uBuntu 16.04 LTS, is running MagicMirror 2 without a hitch. And, more importantly, it’s running MMM-NFL and MMM-Voice for voice control of the module. Voice control was the important factor for me as it’s the only way to access almost all of the features on MMM-NFL As a super deluxe and surprising added benefit to the whole thing, MMM-Voice recognized, and is using, the built-in microphone of the laptop.
Now that I have them both running on a linux machine, can I ask some more questions?
Is there a way to have multiple/or all Statistics windows open at the same time?
Anyway, thanks for the modules. Very cool!

So it does work on Win10 and Ubuntu.

I’m dancing on air right now. This NFL machine is going to be a gift to my son-in-law who loves NFL football and Fantasy Football. I’m sure he’s going to love it and be the envy of all his friends.
@cowboysdude > I would format the laptop and install Unbuntu and run MM on that
Great peace of advice bro!
Reporting the correct present: message this morning. I’ll now set a week long countdown and see how that goes. I’ll try not to bother you anymore
Installed uBuntu and was able to successfully install MMM-NFL and MMM-voice and the dependencies as directed.
This was at the end of the dependencies installation for MMM-voice

@cowboysdude Oh that’s slick! :clap_tone1:

Which is REALLY REALLY funny because that means there is hope for me ;-)

I would format the laptop and install Unbuntu and run MM on that… I have a mini-itx with a 120G SD running Unbuntu and my 32" mirror… works well and you have the terminal window to install just as you would on a Pi… works great!
It’s funny, because uBuntu is where this all started for me (See my story in Show Your MIrror) so I shouldn’t have much trouble backtracking to that
I just chatted with cowboysdude. Apparently, he installed ubuntu on a computer and was able to get MMM-voice to work that way. I’m going to try that. Wish me luck
@amanzimdwini said in raspberry-pi alternatives:
It was nearly that easy… on LTS 16.04 on an ancient Dell:
sudo npm install (failed)
sudo apt install nodejs-legacy
sudo npm install (succeeded)
npm start
-> Please create a config.js file
I may try this. I’ve got MM running on an old Compaq laptop. As you can see from my post above, I can’t install the dependencies for MMM-voice because sudo isn’t recognized by WIndows and is required by the dependency installer. However, if I do as you did and make it an uBuntu machine, that might make life easier for me.
Anyway, I’ve got nothing to lose by trying, except a little time
@cowboysdude said in raspberry-pi alternatives:
Starts right up no issues
Pretty much everything works just as it did on a Pi except it’s a lot faster
So you’re running it on a Windows machine? I ask because I am too, only without being able to use the sudo command in Windows, some dependencies installations won’t work. i.e. MMM-voice. I really want to make a laptop MMM-NFL machine (with MMM-voice) for my son-in-law but that is the problem I am running into.
So, have you used MMM-voice on anything other than a Raspberry Pi?
Oh well, I don’t think this is gonna happen. The libasound2-dev file, from what I can tell, is designed for the ALSA sound component that the Pi uses. My poor son-in-law. He doesn’t get a MMM-NFL laptop.
@strawberry-3.141 said in MMM-NFL:
yes it’s the first step in the installer, when I remember correctly (half a year ago) those were needed to install pocketsphinx and sphinxbase
Ok, then theoretically, I should be able to find and install each one individually in the /MagicMirror/modules/MMM-voice/installers directory. I will follow the order of the installations from the dependencies.sh file.
The problem is with sudo (I think) based on this:
[STEP 1/6] Installing Packages
dependencies.sh: line 36: sudo: command not found
[STEP 1/6] Installing Packages | Failed
Pop@Pop-CQ57-Laptop MINGW32 ~/MagicMirror/modules/MMM-voice/installers (master)
Anyway, I’ll keep trying
